We will also NOT be taking walk-in payments on the night of the event. No ticket sales will be made at the door, so buy your tickets now if you have not done so already.

Reminder: Dress code for the Annual Dinner is black tie preferred.

We are looking forward to a great 24th Annual Dinner on Wednesday at Cipriani Wall Street!

PALS Presents Sixth Annual Retreat for New Associates of Color, Mar. 1

PALS (Practicing Attorneys for Law Students) will be presenting its sixth annual all-day retreat open to new attorneys of color in their first two years of practice. Among the topics to be covered will be transitioning from law school to professional practice, tips for success from mid- to senior-level attorneys, financial responsibility and management, and the benefits of being involved in professional organizations. AABANY Executive Director, Yang Chen, will be speaking on the latter panel. For more details go to bit.ly/PALS6thRetreat.

Mandarin/Cantonese translators needed for Hurricane Sandy Relief and Other Legal Assistance

Brooklyn Jubilee is providing free legal services to Coney Island residents, primarily concerning FEMA, housing, public benefits, and insurance questions. We need Mandarin, Cantonese, Urdu and Russian interpreters all week long, but primarily on Saturdays. Interpreters will assist attorneys and paralegals conducting new client intake. No legal expertise is required for this volunteer position.  This opportunity is not limited to attorneys and law students, and they are in critical need of translators in order to better serve the Chinese-speaking community, so please consider volunteering and inviting any of your non-lawyer friends who have Chinese language skills!

Intake hours are 10-3 on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. Intake hours are 2-7 on Thursday. Interpreters would be appreciated for 2-3 hours of the intake session any day of the week, but especially on Saturdays. Please contact Executive Director Sandhya Reju Boyd at director@brooklynjubilee.org if interested in volunteering.

Brooklyn Jubilee also provides opportunities for legal volunteers, which requires attendance at a training (next one is scheduled for 2/23). A follow-up announcement regarding that opportunity will be forthcoming soon.

Congratulations to AALDEF on a Great Lunar New Year Gala

AABANY congratulates AALDEF on another spectacular Lunar New Year Gala at Pier Sixty.  AABANY took a table at the event, and many AABANY Board members and leaders were in attendance, including President Mike Huang, Immediate Past President Jean Lee and Executive Director Yang Chen.
