Public Legal Resources
AABANY is not a law firm, and we do not represent individual clients. We will participate in causes that affect the Asian Pacific American legal profession, the judiciary, or Asian Pacific Americans in general in the New York area, most often as an amicus curiae or "Friend of the Court".
We currently do not operate a lawyer referral service ourselves. However, there are many resources available in New York that can provide legal assistance and advice:
General Legal Assistance
-
The New York Court System website has a list of all of the major attorney referral services in New York State that will handle all general legal matters, including housing, divorce, personal injury, and immigration. This list includes the New York City Bar, and local bar associations in Manhattan (New York County), Bronx, Brooklyn (Kings County), Queens, Staten Island (Richmond County), Nassau and Suffolk.
- The Legal Aid Society of New York provides legal assistance to low income families and individuals in a variety of matters and acts as the Public Defender in New York City.
Topical Legal Assistance
- Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund (civil rights, anti-Asian violence, election access/voting, low-income Asian Americans)
- Asian Americans for Equality (immigration/naturalization, housing, government benefits)
- Brooklyn Catholic Migration Office (immigration, asylum, citizenship, government benefits)
- Brooklyn Safe Harbor Project (immigration, asylum)
- Innocence Project (post-criminal conviction appeals, DNA evidence)
- MFY Legal Services (low-income, landlord-tenant, seniors, consumer rights)
- Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts (not-for-profits, low-income artists)
We do not receive any compensation for the placement of these links on our website, and we do not intend to create an attorney-client relationship.
Please suggest any additional links that would be useful to main@aabany.org.
