NYWBA Cooperation With Other Bar Associations Committee Meeting

 
The Cooperation with Other Bar Associations Committee and the Young Lawyers Committee will host a meeting/panel discussion titled, "The Importance of Bar Membership for New & Lawyers in Transition".

We have gathered speakers who can speak to how bar association membership enhanced both their legal careers and their lives.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Career Building through Bar Membership
  • Celebrating Diversity in the Bar
Our Speakers:

Abayomi O. Ajaiyeoba ("Yomi”) is a Deputy Managing Attorney and Administrative Law Judge with the Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings/New York City Environmental Control Board ("OATH/ECB). Yomi is the immediate past President of the Nigerian Lawyers Association, immediate past vice president of the Association of Black Women Attorneys, and currently serves as an Executive Council member of the NYSBA Conference of Bar Leaders and is a NYSBA House of Delegates Member. She has a featured essay in the publication, Conquering the Bar Exam, Insight for First Generation and Minority Law Students and Graduates.

Elba R. Galvan is current President of the Puerto Rican Bar Association and co-chair of the New York Women’s Bar Association’s legislation committee. Elba has recently served as a court attorney Criminal Trial Part, Supreme Court, New York County.

Judy Kim, Board of Governors, Korean American Lawyers Association of Greater New York. She is associate counsel in the Bureau & Estates Litigation Section of the Legal Division at the New York Liquidation Bureau . She is a Regional Governor and Board Member of National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, Membership Secretary of the Asian American Bar Association of New York, and a Steering Committee Member of the Korean American League for Civic Action. Ms. Kim is also a member of the Diversity Committee and serves on the Board of Trustees at The Spence School and is a member of the Leadership Committee at the Young Survival Coalition.

Margaret T. Ling, Long standing and active member of the Asian American Bar Association of New York. Past Board of Director. She is Senior Counsel to Summit Associates. She is also a member of the Asian Pacific Bar Association of New Jersey, Korean American Lawyers Association of Greater New York, New York Law School Alumnae Association and NYS Bar Association Real Property & Diversity Committees.

Maria Matos, a past president of the Puerto Rican Bar Associationand past Chair of the Puerto Rican Bar Association Scholarship Fund, Inc. Maria serves as Co-Chair of the Diversity Committee for the Hofstra School of Law Alumni Association and Co-Chairs the New York Women’s Bar Association’s Press and Publicity Committee. She is a member of the Puerto Rican Bar Association, 100 Hispanic Women, Inc., the New York Women’s Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association's Committee on Professional Discipline. She was an active member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York’s Minorities in the Courts Committee, the Association of Arbitrators, the Hispanic National Bar Association, the Bronx Women’s Bar Association and the Association of Small Claims Arbitrators.
