“The Road to the Court of Appeals: Demystifying the Process”

Monday, September 8, 2014, 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM, at the City Bar

The New York State Commission on Judicial Nomination is actively seeking applicants for the vacancy on the New York Court of Appeals that will be created by the retirement of Judge Robert Smith on December 31, 2014. In an effort to demystify the selection process, provide information, and encourage applications, the Commission is holding a program hosted by Judith S. Kaye, former Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals and sitting Chair of the Commission. She will discuss the process of applying to join the Court of Appeals with former Associate Judges George Bundy Smith and Howard A. Levine. Scheduled speakers will also includeDebra L. Raskin, New York City Bar President; Michael A. Cardozo, former New York City Corporation Counsel; and Henry M. Greenberg, Counsel, Commission on Judicial Nomination.

Applications for this vacancy are due September 15th, so this program is an excellent opportunity for those considering applying for a seat on New York's highest court or wanting to learn more about what’s involved.
