TENTATIVE AGENDA

1)   Plan and Discuss Programs currently in Progress

a) “Shattering the Model Minority Myth: Asian Pacific Americans Facing Poverty in NYC,” a Continuing Legal Education (CLE) program and discussion forum at New York Law School on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 from 7-8:30PM, with a reception from6-7PM.

b) Town Hall Meeting on the current debate on changing admission criteria for entrance into the NYC Specialized High Schools: pros and cons. Issues Committee Chair Relic Sun is working on a report and recommendations to the AABANY Board of Directors. She will be spearheading the organization of this important town hall meeting. It is very possible that we will be coordinating with a number of other APA organizations to organize this event.

2) Review Programs that Have Taken Place or Are in Progress

a) June 2014 and Ongoing: Pilot Pro Bono Project with LSNY, "Immigration Remedies for Domestic Violence Victims," including CLE training in June; and, pro bono representation in U Visas and VAWA cases

b) August 2014: Joint GSPI and Pro Bono Committees' Mixer at Lee Anav

c) September 2014: "The Civil Rights Movement: APAs Moving Forward" Discussion Forum at Fall Conference

d) September 2014: Joint Committees Dinner (including GSPI COmmittee) at Fall Conference
e) September 2014: DACA community presentation in Sunset Park, Brooklyn with Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund and New York Immigration Coalition, sponsored by the Office of Council Member Carlos Menchaca
