How to Enter the Legal Academy: Pipeline Program
THINKING ABOUT BECOMING A LAW PROFESSOR?

The Pipeline Program at the National People of Color Legal Scholarship Conference is an opportunity to learn the inside information necessary to join the legal academic community! All interested parties are invited to attend a four-hour “boot camp” program featuring panel discussions about entering law school teaching as a person of color.

Date: Thursday, September 9, 2010. Time: 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Topics covered will include:

How to Gain a Position: Self-marketing, CVs, Callbacks, Job Talks
Placement: The “Meet Market,” FAR forms and Interviewing Advice
Entrée Strategies: Fellowships, Clerkships, Visiting Assistant Professorships
Writing for the Academy: Turning law school papers into articles, research agendas
Advice for Late Bloomers: Entering the academic market later in your career

All parties interested in attending this event should register while space is available. Registration fee is $20. Lunch will be provided.

Professor Nerissa Skillman, a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley (Boalt Hall School of Law) will teach the eight-hour course. Professor Skillman is a law professor with thirty years’ experience and is the founder of The Skillman Method™. (See www.theskillmanmethod.com.)

Professor Skillman’s students report incredible success and include notable leaders within the legal community. Several of her graduates have been invited to speak about their experiences and the impact of her courses upon their careers.

Immigration and Nationality Law Committee and ISACC "Law Day"

Rio Guerrero and Tsui Yee, the Co-Chairs of the Asian-American Bar Association of New York's ("AABANY") Immigration and Nationality Law Committee, are organizing a "Law Day" with a community organization, ISACC (Indochina Sino-American Community Center). ISACC is a great organization which provides much-needed services to the immigrant and refugee community. The Law Day is scheduled for Saturday September 25, 2010 at ISACC:

We plan on doing a presentation on the basics of the immigration process and a Know-Your-Rights seminar. Aside from these presentations, we will provide one-on-one consultations for members of the community with immigration questions or who need assistance with their immigration cases.

Right now we are looking for immigration attorneys who would be willing to volunteer just a few hours of their time to help make Law Day a success. We need attorneys who can provide consultations (these would be limited to about 20 minutes and the attorneys would not be under any obligation to handle the immigration matter), or who would be willing to help with either the Immigration Basics or the Know Your Rights presentation. ISACC is really looking forward to working with attorneys to meet the needs of its community members.

Chinese/English interpreters will be abundant. So don't worry about language barriers.

If anyone is interested in volunteering, please let me know. It would be greatly appreciated if you can participate in this event!
