March 18, 2010AABANY took part in a legal clinic at the New York State Attorney General's Office to provide assistance and advice to victims of immigration fraud.  Immigration and Nationality Law Committee Chair Rio Guerrero gathered a group of attorneys to participate in the clinic which provided vital guidance to more than 120 individuals and families with their immigration issues. 

March 15, 2010AABANY’s Women’s Committee helped to organize the inaugural Bar None Women's Symposium entitled: We’ve Come a Long Way, Baby! Or Have We? Winning as Women of Color.  Bar None is a consortium of women's committees of New York area bar associations including AABANY, the New York City Bar, Brooklyn Women's Bar Association (BWBA), and the Nigerian Lawyers' Association (NLA). Over 200 guests attended the event, and 3.5 CLE credits were awarded to attendees. The distinguished panelists included NYC Deputy Mayor Carol Robles-Roman, Michele Coleman-Mayes, Honorable Doris Ling-Cohan, former AABANY President Lai Sun Yee, former AABANY President Sylvia Fung Chin and the keynote speaker, Carla Harris, from Morgan Stanley. The steering committee members included Folake Ayoola (NLA), Jean Lee (AABANY), Karen Lim (NY City Bar), Anne Behk (AABANY), Joanne D. Quinones (BWBA), and Yomi Ajaiyeoba (NLA).  Congratulations to the Women’s Committee for helping to make this event a great success.


March 10, 2010 AABANY co-sponsored with SABANY and NASABA a reception for Preet Bharara, United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York. It was held at the Rubin Art Museum, on West 17th Street, and more than 100 people, including many AABANY members, attended.


February 24, 2010 – AABANY’s Annual Banquet took place on February 24, at the Marriott Marquis.  Almost 500 guests were in attendance.  The Keynote Speaker was Thomas L. Sager, Senior Vice President and General Counsel, DuPont.  Additional Honorees include: Sandra Leung, General Counsel, Bristol-Myers Squibb; Peggy Kuo, Chief Hearing Office, New York Stock Exchange; and John Liu, New York City Comptroller.


January 12, 2010 – Thanks to everyone who attended the Annual Meeting.  Thanks to Kaye Scholer for hosting the meeting.  At the meeting, Committee Chairs from AABANY’s various committees presented reports on their activities last year and spoke about upcoming plans for this year.  At the meeting, the following Officers and Directors were elected:
