Asian American Law Fund of New York
Applications for 2013 Community Service Scholarships
The Asian American Law Fund of New York, Inc. (the “Fund”), a non-profit organization established in 1993 by the Asian American Bar Association of New York, invites law students to apply for its 2013 Community Service Scholarships. These Scholarships represent the Fund’s commitment to assisting law students with their tuition obligations while encouraging them to use their legal knowledge and training to benefit New York’s Asian American community. For 2013, the Fund will continue to award Scholarships in the amount of $5000 each to up to three law students who work with NY community service organizations during summer 2013. Prior Scholarship recipients have donated their time to various organizations addressing a breadth of issues, including immigration, voting rights, domestic violence, trafficking, and discrimination. As a result of their involvement, recipients have expressed a greater appreciation for the legal process and the unique issues that confront Asian Americans. According to 2011 Scholarship recipient Sapna Patel, “I cannot express how thankful I am to the Asian American Law Fund of New York and the Asian American Bar Association of New York for your support this summer. My work this summer [at MFY Legal Services] pushed my legal skills to a new level and I feel proud of the work I have done in the area of affordable housing and with New York’s diverse community.”
The completed Scholarship Application and all required materials must be postmarked by April 1, 2013. Applications and further information can be found at www.aabany.org. Questions regarding the Community Service Scholarship Program or tax deductible donations to the Fund may be directed to Sylvia Fung Chin at email@example.com.
Since its founding in 1993, the Fund has raised more than $200,000 to support its community service initiatives. The Fund has sponsored law students with a demonstrated commitment to serving the New York Asian American community since 1997.
