AABANY Litigation Committee Presents Deposition Bootcamp on July 17

Deadline to register is Monday, July 15.

Back by popular demand! As a follow-up to last year's "Deposition Bootcamp and Ethics Minefield" we will host a workshop where you can conduct a mock deposition and receive feedback and suggestions. Part I of the workshop would consist of an overview on taking and defending depositions. The Bootcamp will conclude with a Deposition Workshop where you may elect to take or defend a mock deposition. For more information on the workshop check out the Upcoming Events section below.

Mentor-Mentee Happy Hour, July 25

AABANY will be holding a mid-summer happy hour for its mentors and mentees on Thursday, July 25th from 7-9pm at the Ainsworth, 122 W 26th St (btw 6th and 7th Aves). This is another opportunity to catch up with your mentors or mentees as well as network with fellow colleagues. If you plan to attend, please register by no later than 11:59 PM Wednesday, July 24

Save the Date: Fall Conference/NAPABA NE Regional on Sept. 21

AABANY is pleased to announce that its Fall Conference will also be the NAPABA Northeast Regional this year. It will take place on September 21, at Weil Gotshal & Manges. It will be a full day of CLE programs and also include a trial advocacy program and law firm pitch sessions. More details to follow. Check back on our website at bit.ly/nereg_fc13. In the meantime, please save the date and make plans to join us this fall.

NAPABA Scholarship for National Convention

NAPABA strives to keep the Convention affordable for our members and offers one of the best values among legal education conferences. NAPABA also maintains a scholarship fund to help further defray costs for attendees through full or partial registration waivers, travel stipends, and lodging stipends.

Scholarship applications for the 2013 Convention are due August 30. Apply today if you need assistance with travel and registration costs. We look forward to seeing you in Kansas City, Missouri on November 7-10.

AABANY Seeks Legal Interns

Applications are now being accepted for AABANY’s 2013 Legal Internship Program.  Open to college students, law students and law grads, AABANY is looking for a few talented, energetic and motivated interns to help plan and organize AABANY programs and events, provide research and administrative assistance and perform other tasks and assignments to advance and promote AABANY’s mission.  Applications are being accepted on a rolling basis.  For full details and information on how to apply go to bit.ly/Lgl_Intrn_Details

AABANY Law Review Special Edition: Own Your Copy Now

The AABANY Law Review’s Special Edition issue, released at the AABANY Fall Conference, is available for purchase ($20) on the AABANY website at http://bit.ly/aabanylr_curr. The issue features annotated reenactment scripts of five historic Asian American trials written by Honorable Denny Chin, Chancellor and Dean Frank H. Wu, Kathy Hirata Chin, and Vincent T. Chang. These plays have been presented by Asian American bar associations and law schools all over the nation. The issue includes an introduction and foreword from the authors. Fellowship Announcements

New York Lawyers for the Public Interest (NYLPI), a non-profit civil rights legal organization, is accepting applications from candidates for post-graduate fellowships. The Fellow would begin in the fall of 2014. NYLPI seeks highly accomplished, progressive, community-minded candidates with excellent research and writing skills to advance the goals of our programs. All public interest fellowships are very competitive, and applicants need time to develop project proposals and complete applications. NYLPI strongly encourages all interested applicants to apply as early as possible. Candidates should submit a cover letter, resume, writing sample, most recent transcript (official or unofficial) and three references to Fabian Gomez at fellowships@nypl.org as soon as possible but no later than 5PM on July 18, 2013.

Court Sponsored Volunteer Attorney Program

Do you have some time to volunteer to assist self-represented litigants in New York's courts?  Many opportunities exist through several Volunteer Attorney Programs to get trained to provide legal advice and assistance to pro se clients in housing, family law, consumer debt and foreclosure cases.  Please visit the Court Sponsored Volunteer Attorney Program’s website to learn how you can help.
