Northeast Regional/Fall Conference Registration Now Open

AABANY proudly presents its 2013 Fall Conference and NAPABA Northeast Regional: “Making an Impact,” on September 21, hosted by Weil Gotshal & Manges LLP. This year, in addition to a full day of CLE programs on cutting edge topics presented by AABANY and NAPABA committees, we also invite attendees to participate in the 2nd annual Trial Advocacy Program (“TAP”) and our Law Firm Pitch Sessions. AABANY Co-sponsors Third Annual Minority Law Student Conference

The New York State Bar Association’s Committee on Diversity and Inclusion will host the Third Annual Minority Law Student Conference Day on Thursday, August 8 at New York Law School. AABANY is proud to co-sponsor this excellent program once again. See flyer at http://bit.ly/nysbaflyer.


This popular event is open to law students of color and diverse backgrounds. Informative sessions provide students practical guidance on ways to prepare and present themselves for on-campus interviews.

Volunteer attorneys are also needed to assist during program segments, notably to join students during lunch and for the practice interviews.

Get to Know AABANY 3 Happy Hour, August 8

On Thursday, August 8th AABANY holds its Get to Know AABANY 3rd Summer Happy Hour at Onieals Bar and Restaurant, 174 Grand Street. Come meet old friends and make new ones with AABANY's Membership, Judiciary and Young Lawyers Committee! To stay cool, the first 30 people will get one FREE drink (beer, wine and well drinks)! AABANY Night at the Theater, Aug 22: Around the World in 80 Days

Join AABANY for a night at the theater. We have been invited to see this wonderful new, family-friendly show at the New Theater on West 45th Street -- for FREE! 2013-14 Mentorship Program Open for Registration

We are pleased to announce the opening of AABANY's Mentorship Program for the year 2013-14.

The purpose of the program is to provide support, advice, and networking opportunities to aid both mentors and mentees in their professional and personal development. Each mentee is matched to a mentor who will serve as a teacher, role model and resource to the mentee. By way of one-to-one relationships and events held throughout the year, the program will provide the structure to advance the professional growth, and legal and networking skills of both mentors and mentees. Mentors and mentees will be AABANY members and may come from any level of experience and practice area.

Register for September Legal Trade Mission to China: August 16 Deadline

The United States Department of Commerce, working with the American Bar Association, is leading a legal trade mission to China in September. As stated in the announcement, "This mission, which will include stops in Beijing and Shanghai, will introduce U.S. law firms to the Chinese market, help firms market legal services to Chinese law firms and companies, including those interested in doing business in the United States, and further an ongoing dialogue with Chinese authorities on opening the Chinese legal services market." NAPABA Celebrates Confirmation of Raymond T. Chen to the Federal Circuit

"NAPABA celebrates Ray Chen’s nomination to the Federal Circuit, which we are proud to have supported," said Wendy Shiba, president of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA). “He has superb credentials to serve on this court, and we commend President Obama for nominating him. NAPABA also thanks Senator Mazie Hirono for her support of his nomination in the Senate."

NAPABA Scholarship for National Convention

Deadline to register: August 30

NAPABA strives to keep the Convention affordable for our members and offers one of the best values among legal education conferences. NAPABA also maintains a scholarship fund to help further defray costs for attendees through full or partial registration waivers, travel stipends, and lodging stipends.

Scholarship applications for the 2013 Convention are due August 30. Apply today if you need assistance with travel and registration costs. We look forward to seeing you in Kansas City, Missouri on November 7-10.

The AABANY Law Review’s Special Edition issue, released at the AABANY Fall Conference, is available for purchase ($20) on the AABANY website at http://bit.ly/aabanylr_curr. The issue features annotated reenactment scripts of five historic Asian American trials written by Honorable Denny Chin, Chancellor and Dean Frank H. Wu, Kathy Hirata Chin, and Vincent T. Chang. These plays have been presented by Asian American bar associations and law schools all over the nation. The issue includes an introduction and foreword from the authors.
