NEW YORK - November 4, 2013 - The Asian American Bar Association of new York ("AABANY") joins the New York County Lawyers Association ("NYCLA") in its support of Proposition 6 and encourages all AABANY members and the greater Asian Pacific American Community to vote "Yes" in favor of Proposition 6, the proposed amendement to Article VI, Section 2 and 25 of the New York State Constitution . The Amendment would allow judges of the New York State Court of Appeals to serve until age 80 and would allow judges of the New York State Supreme Court to be certificated from age 76 to 80. NEW YORK - June 28, 2013 - Statement of the Asian American Bar Association of New York Regarding the Supreme Court's recent Voting Rights Act Decision. The Asian American Bar Association of New York (AABANY) urges the United States Congress to reinstate the enforcement provisions of the Voting Rights Act, Section 4, that were invalidated this past Tuesday, June 25, 2013 by the United States Supreme court in Shelby County, Alabama v. Chen to serve as a federal district court judge in the Eastern District of New York. NEW YORK – February 28, 2013 – On Wednesday, February 27, 2013, the Asian American Bar Association of New York ("AABANY”) held its 24th annual dinner at Cipriani Wall Street. The annual dinner has consistently attracted more than 500 attendees from the New York legal community and guests have included prominent federal and state judges, elected officials and dignitaries, and attorneys from large and small law firms, corporate law departments, prosecutors’ offices and government agencies. This year’s annual dinner was the largest in AABANY’s history, attracting more than 750 attendees and sponsorships from more than 60 law firms and corporations to celebrate the occasion. January 28, 2013 - NEW YORK – January 28, 2013 – The Asian American Bar Association of New York (AABANY) welcomes and applauds the news that Glenn Lau-Kee has been named as President-Elect of the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA). The 77,000-member New York State Bar Association is the official statewide organization of lawyers in New York and the largest voluntary state bar association in the nation. Mr. Lau-Kee was elected at the 135th Annual Meeting by the House of Delegates, the Association’s decision and policy-making body.
