Help Plan the 2018 AABANY Annual Dinner

The initial meeting for those interested in helping to plan the 2018 Annual Meeting was held on Monday evening, Nov. 6, at the New York City Bar Association. Thanks to all who attended. If you are interested in helping us to plan and organize our largest event of the year but were not able to make the meeting, please contact President-Elect James Cho at james.cho@aabany.org to find out how you can get involved. Thank you.

AABANY Night at the Theater:"A Deal"

Please join AABANY for a night at the theater to see "A Deal" at Urban Stages Theater. We are trying to get together a group for the Friday, December 8 performance at 7:30 pm.

Show Description: Like many new upper-middle-class Chinese families, Mr. and Mrs. Li are proud to give their only daughter a life they could only dream of (an Ivy League degree in art and an apartment in Manhattan), until they realize she’s turning into a dangerous stranger. A DEAL is a dark comedy that features a Chinese family’s home buying journey in New York in winter 2015, a time of increased real estate property ownership by overseas Chinese and a sharp decline in the value of the Chinese yuan against the US dollar. It reveals the ideological conflicts between the East and the West in contemporary society by tracking a little stream of the global cash flow.

For more information, click here.

If you are interested in attending, please complete the survey by clicking here.

We are looking for a minimum of 10 people to qualify for the group rate, and once we reach that number we will email everyone who has responded with instructions on making payment via the website.

Congratulations!

AABANY congratulates the following member and leaders on their recent achievements, accolades and honors:

Mentorship Program

The AABANY 2018 Mentorship Program is now accepting applications until Monday, December 11, 2017.

Our mentorship program provides support, advice, and networking opportunities to aid both mentors and mentees in their professional and personal development. Each mentee is matched with a mentor who serves as a teacher, role model, and resource to the mentee. By way of one-to-one relationships and Mentorship Program events held throughout the year, the program will provide the structure to advance professional growth and networking skills of both mentors and mentees. Mentors and mentees will be AABANY members and may come from any level of experience and practice area.

If you would like more information, please visit the AABANY Mentorship Program webpage, or send an email to Edward Chen, Shruti Chopra, or David Sohn, Co-Coordinators of the Mentorship Program, at edward.chen@aabany.orgshruti.chopra@aabany.org, or david.sohn@aabany.org.

Join the AABANY Community Response Task Force

AABANY’s Issues Committee is pleased to invite you to join the newly formed AABANY Community Response Task Force!

The Community Response Task Force (CRTF) is AABANY’s answer to the rapidly changing legal landscape and the need for quick, effective, and coordinated responses to the emergent issues that affect our communities. AABANY is firmly committed to being a strong voice and steadfast advocate on behalf of the Asian-American/Pacific-Islander community. In the past several months, we have all been witness to sweeping changes that necessitated powerful legal responses. While there have been some great triumphs, there were often times when it was difficult to obtain information, to find ways to contribute, or to organize a response quickly enough to be effective.

The CRTF is specifically designed to address these needs. The CRTF will serve as a central clearinghouse for information and coordination – tailoring the alerts sent to each volunteer based on that volunteer’s preferences and the needs of the community. Alerts and actions will range from emergency legal services to direct non-legal service actions and from workshops to rallies.
