Celebrate APA Heritage Month with AABANY

May continues to be a busy month for AABANY. Last week:

  • On May 17, AABANY joined 19 other bar associations to support marriage equality legislation. See the article from the May 18 issue of the New York Law Journal, Bar Groups Support Gay Marriage and related video in our In the News section at http://bit.ly/LegalCase_for_SameSex_Marriage.
  • Solo Small Firm Committee Bar FlatOn May 17, the Solo and Small Firm Committee co-chaired by Timothy Wong and Pauline Yeung-Ha hosted a get-together in Tribeca at B Flat. Thanks to all who attended. Photos available at this link: http://bit.ly/SoloSmallFirmCmteEvent2011.
  • On May 18, AABANY members attended Borough President Scott Stringer’s APA Heritage Month Celebration at the Surrogates’ Courthouse. Executive Director Yang Chen had to depart before the Borough President’s remarks, so Borough President Stringer recognized Jim Lin, AABANY Director and Co-chair of the Prosecutors’ Committee, as the Executive Director of AABANY. Jim Lin can now say he was briefly the ED of AABANY.
  • On May 18, the IP Committee launched its IP Skills Series with a CLE on trademark registration. Bobby Pierson, Associate at Fitzpatrick Cella, and Karen Lim, co-chair of the IP Committee, presented the very informative and engaging session. Despite the dreadful weather, the conference room where the program took place was packed. Thanks to Vinny Lee and Cadwalader for hosting. The IP Committee next meets on June 1 at Kaye Scholer. See Upcoming Events on the AABANY Calendar.
  • On May 19, AABANY, represented by Hon. Marilyn Go, Hon. Doris Ling Cohan, President-elect Jean Lee, Director Clara Ohr and AABANY member Lillian Wan, attended the Metropolitan Black Bar Association’s 27th Anniversary Awards Gala at Steiner Studios in Brooklyn. Among the speakers was former Mayor David Dinkins. Congratulations to all the honorees and to the MBBA for holding such a wonderful event in a beautiful venue.
  • On May 20, AABANY co-sponsored with NYSBA and 15 other bar associations an all-day CLE program on how to start your own law practice.
