On-line Tickets for "Revisiting Vincent" Closing on May 21

“Revisiting Vincent: The Legacy of the Vincent Chin Case 30 Years Later” is a co-production by the Asian American Bar Association of New York (AABANY), Asian American Arts Alliance (a4) and the Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA), presenting a re-enactment of the Vincent Chin case based on a script written by the Hon. Denny Chin and Dean Frank Wu from the original trial transcripts.  Actual testimony from the trial will be performed, interspersed with footage from the Oscar-nominated documentary “Who Killed Vincent Chin?”  The performance/talkback/reception takes place at New York Law School on Tuesday, May 22, from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm.  Tickets are available for purchase on-line until the evening of May 21 at http://bit.ly/revisit_vchin_nonmmbr.  Tickets may also be purchased at the door on May 22.

2012 NAPABA Eastern Super Regional Conference : May 31- June 2

APALA-NJ is proud to announce that it is hosting this year's NAPABA Eastern Super Regional Conference at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, from May 31 to June 2. Many AABANY leaders and members will be moderating or speaking on panels. The AABANY Trial Re-enactment Team will be reprising the Vincent Chin Trial Re-enactment. May is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month and once again AABANY celebrates with a slew events, including taking part in presenting with the Asian American Arts Alliance (a4) and the Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA) "Revisiting Vincent Chin," a re-enactment of the Vincent Chin trial with a cast of professional actors and a Pre-Memorial Day Happy Hour with AABANY's Litigation Committee, Young Lawyers Committee and Student Outreach Committee. It’s all part of the SOC’s “Get to Know AABANY” Initiative for law students and others who want to learn more about our great organization and all the wonderful people that are part of it. AABANY Seeks Legal Interns

Applications are now being accepted for AABANY’s 2012 Legal Internship Program.  Open to college students, law students and law grads, AABANY is looking for a few talented, energetic and motivated interns to help plan and organize AABANY programs and events, provide research and administrative assistance and perform other tasks and assignments to advance and promote AABANY’s mission.  Applications are being accepted on a rolling basis.  For full details and information on how to apply go to bit.ly/Lgl_Intrn_Details.  Please direct any questions to Executive Director Yang Chen at [email protected].

Battle of the Bars

Thursday, June 7, 2012 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Federal Courthouse, 500 Pearl Street.

Join the Network of Bar Leaders for the first inter-bar association talent competition. Nominate at least one member of your bar association to become this year's LEGAL IDOL. Talent is not defined. We welcome all talent from singers to stand-up comics.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three contestants.  Admission is $15 (to benefit Network of Bar Leaders). To register as a contestant or to RSVP, please email [email protected].

D.N.J. U.S. Magistrate Judge Vacancies - Apply by May 22

The United States District Court for the District of New Jersey has announced a vacancy for two (2) full-time U.S. Magistrate Judge positions in the Newark vicinage. The DNJ's public notice, which contains additional information about the position and the application, is available on the court's website at http://www.njd.uscourts.gov/atty/NoticeBarApril2012.pdf.

AABANY encourages all qualified attorneys with an interest in serving in the federal judiciary to submit an application, which is due no later than May 22, 2012. Court Sponsored Volunteer Attorney Program

Do you have some time to volunteer to assist self-represented litigants in New York's courts?  Many opportunities exist through several Volunteer Attorney Programs to get trained to provide legal advice and assistance to pro se clients in housing, family law, consumer debt and foreclosure cases.  Please visit the Court Sponsored Volunteer Attorney Program’s website to learn how you can help.
