AALFNY is reaching out to supporters including attorneys, law firms and corporations who can help to support this important cause: raising money to fund law school tuition scholarship grants for law students who are serving the Asian American community as legal interns in New York metro area community service organizations.

Thanks for Coming to Get to Know AABANY 2 at the Rubin

On Friday, May 31, AABANY’s Membership Committee presented the second of its Get to Know AABANY Happy Hours, this time featuring the Corporate Law, Young Lawyers and Student Outreach Committees. More than 70 attendees gathered at K2 Lounge in the Rubin Museum of Art. Apart from mixing, mingling and networking with fellow AABANY members and friends, guests got to enjoy the Himalayan and Buddhist art collection at the museum, music provided by a live DJ, delicious finger foods and 2-for-1 drink specials. It was a great way to wrap up APA Heritage Month and a wonderful wind-down to a busy week. All who attended seemed to enjoy the space, the surroundings and the good company. Stay tuned for future announcements of upcoming Get to Know AABANY events!

Three APA Judges Now in Federal Appellate Courts

As announced last week by NAPABA and AAJC via press release, Hon. Sri Srinivsasan was confirmed as an appellate judge in the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, making him the first South Asian Federal appellate judge and first Asian Pacific American judge in the D.C. Circuit. In the above (left), he is posing with the only other two APA judges in the Federal appellate courts, Hon. Jacqueline Nguyen of the Ninth Circuit, and Hon. Denny Chin of the Second Circuit. Thanks to President Obama for nominating all three judges and the U.S. Senate for confirming them. (Photo taken at the White House by Kathy Hirata Chin.)

AABANY Law Review Student Note Competition

The AABANY Law Review is pleased to announce its inaugural Student Note Competition. One student note will be selected for publication in the Fall 2013 issue, and the winner will be awarded a $300 cash prize. Our hope is that the timing of the competition will encourage those students who are writing relevant seminar papers this spring to satisfy their course requiremen while also creating an entry for the competition. Students who have written papers in the past are also welcome to come submit them for consideration if they have not been previously published. The deadline to submit a piece for consideration is Monday, June 24, 2013. Statements of intent, inquiries, and submissions should be sent to [email protected].
