AABANY Trial Re-enactments in NYLJ

The New York Law Journal covered the AABANY re-enactment of the Heart Mountain trials presented on July 11 at Cadwalader in an article entitled, "Bar Uses Historical Reenactments as 'Teaching Tool.'" Here is an excerpt:

A roomful of attorneys was transported last Thursday to the early 1940s, when Japanese-Americans on the West Coast were forced from their homes and into internment camps, but could still be drafted to fight for the country that had stripped them of their constitutional rights.

AABANY thanks Cadwalader for hosting the event, helping AABANY to inform and educate the public about important civil rights and social justice issues in American history raised by Asian Americans and their experience. (Photo credit: Monica Paquette. Used with Permission.)

2013-14 Mentorship Program Open for Registration

We are pleased to announce the opening of AABANY's Mentorship Program for the year 2013-14.

The purpose of the program is to provide support, advice, and networking opportunities to aid both mentors and mentees in their professional and personal development. Each mentee is matched to a mentor who will serve as a teacher, role model and resource to the mentee. By way of one-to-one relationships and events held throughout the year, the program will provide the structure to advance the professional growth, and legal and networking skills of both mentors and mentees. Mentors and mentees will be AABANY members and may come from any level of experience and practice area.

For more information go to

Deadlines: Mentees must register by August 23, mentors by September 6.

'Lil Tokyo Reporter' at AAIFF on July 25

AABANY is a proud community partner for “Lil Tokyo Reporter," directed by Jeffrey Gee Chin, being screened as part of "Into the Penumbra," at AAIFF '13. The short film is based on the life of Sei Fujii, played by Chris Tashima, a reporter who confronts injustice in the Japanese community during the Great Depression. Sei Fujii was a civil rights leader who vowed to protect his people, defending them in legal cases with Attorney Wright and building a much needed hospital for the Japanese American community.
