We have confirmed Wednesday, June 25, 2014, 7-9pm for our CLE Training, "Providing Immigration Remedies for Domestic Violence Survivors." There will be pizza and refreshments. This marks the beginning of a collaborative pilot project between Legal Services NYC and AABANY, brought to you by the Pro Bono & Community Service Committee and the Government Service & Public Interest Committee.
This CLE is for AABANY members and non-members who are interested in making a big difference in the lives of low-income survivors of domestic violence and who are willing to commit to taking at least one pro bono U Visa matter from Legal Services NYC after the CLE training. Volunteer participants will be paired together on a case and will be assigned a LSNYC attorney for supervision and guidance.
It is estimated that each matter should take a team of two attorneys/law graduates/law students approximately 30-40 hours to complete depending on the complexity of the case and how comfortable the attorney is with the substantive law. Past experience indicates that one new pro bono attorney usually spends about 40 hours on a matter.
If you are an experienced immigration attorney and would like to offer your pro bono representation to a survivor of domestic violence, but wish to skip the CLE, please contact us. An experienced LSNYC staff attorney will review your experience with you, and assign you to an appropriate matter.

AABANY and KALAGNY (Korean American Lawyers Association of Greater New York) are proud to co-sponsor MinKwon Center's Pro Bono DACA Renewal Clinics. Help protect undocumented youth from deportation by renewing their DACA status. Pro bono attorneys and volunteer law students conduct intake, legal screenings for relief eligibility, and help undocumented individuals maintain their employment authorization and "deferred action” status. No prior experience necessary, training will be provided. Clinic dates are on Fridays and Saturdays throughout the summer. CLE credits will be provided.
