 The Career Placement Committee, Young Lawyers Committee, and Membership Committee present "Get on Track" Series, Part I: Getting on the Partnership Track.
Working hard, being responsive and getting things right are necessary to get on the partnership track, but are no longer sufficient to stay on the partnership track. The goals of this 90-minute roundtable discussion are to identify (1) the soft skills that APA associates or associates in general lack in order to be seriously considered for partnership, (2) the political landscape and stereotypes within law firms that work for and against APA associates in particular, and (3) ways to overcome these hurdles and challenges so that APA associates have a better chance to make partner in the post-financial crisis world.

The program will be launched during the cocktail reception at the AABANY Fall Conference to be held on September 20, 2014 at Morgan Lewis, 101 Park Avenue, NY, NY. As much as possible, we would like to reach a one-to-one ratio of mentors-to-mentees. We are only 20 mentors away from our goal! We are in special need of Intellectual Property, International. The purpose of the program is to provide support, advice, and networking opportunities to aid both mentors and mentees in their professional and personal development. The Thomas Tang Moot Court Competition is an appellate advocacy competition sponsored annually by the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association Law Foundation (NAPABA Law Foundation), an IRC § 501(c)(3) non-profit, charitable and educational affiliate of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA). The NAPABA Law Foundation works closely with the National Asian Pacific American Law Students Association (NAPALSA) and its local affiliates at law schools across the country. The purpose of this Competition is to develop advocacy skills without regard to the merit of the petitioner’s or respondent’s cases.

There is one (1) full-time United States Magistrate Judge position vacancy at the Long Island Courthouse of the Eastern District of New York located at 100 Federal Plaza, Central Islip, NY 11722 effective August 5, 2014. The duties of the position are demanding and wide-ranging, and will include: (1) conduct of preliminary proceedings in criminal cases; (2) trial and disposition of misdemeanor cases; (3) conduct of various pretrial matters and evidentiary proceedings on delegation from the judges of the district court; (4) trial and disposition of civil cases upon consent of the litigants; and (5) assignment of additional duties not inconsistent with the Constitution and the laws of the United States.
