Last year, New York court interpreters assisted litigants in more than 14,000 hearings in close to 100 different languages. The increasing linguistic diversity of our city and state poses challenges as the court system provides access to justice for New Yorkers with limited spoken English proficiency. Our distinguished panel will explore the New York State Office of Language Access’s new initiatives in light of the day-to-day challenges facing litigants, advocates, and judges. Their discussion will address changing technology and other resources needed to facilitate court interpreting, as well as rising concern over access to justice within our immigrant communities.
