Join Jack Hsia, Deng Lin and the Pro Bono and Community Service Committee (PBCS) to learn how to answer common housing legal questions, including the (1) typical timeline for an eviction, (2) common defenses to nonpays and holdovers, and (3) legal options for housing repair and landlord harassment issues.

Program Faculty:
Jack Hsia, Esq. (they/them) is a legal services attorney at Chinese-American Planning Council (CPC). Their work at CPC involves providing and connecting AAPI, immigrant and low income New Yorkers with legal services and support. Through CPC, they also hold regular know your rights workshops and trainings to empower community members to assert their legal rights. Their interest in housing rights and empowering immigrant communities began through their work as a community liaison at Congresswoman Velazquez's office before law school. After graduating from Georgetown University, they worked as a Skadden Fellow at Communities Resist (CoRe), where they represented tenant associations in AAPI and immigrant neighborhoods to build community power and improve their living conditions. In addition to their work at CPC, they also work with the Chinatown Community Land Trust, are a member of the AILA Client Resources Committee, and an art teacher in Sunset Park with the Brooklyn Public Library's Artmobile.

Deng Lin, Esq. (he/him) is a housing attorney at Communities Resist (CoRe). His work at CoRe involves affirmative group representation representing tenant associations against their landlords for repairs. He is also defending tenants from tenant associations in nonpayment and holdover proceedings.
