NYSBA presents the The Haywood Burns Memorial Award is presented each year by the New York State Bar Association Committee on Civil Rights. This year, the Committee will honor John Dunne, Esq. with the Award. Mr. Dunne, former New York State Senator and U.S. Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights, was Chair of the State Senate's Corrections Committee in 1971 when he traveled to Attica Prison during the riots to attempt to seek a peaceful resolution for the inmates and hostages. The event includes a symposium on the Sixth Amendment — Past, Present and Future, followed by a reception. There is no charge to attend, but registration is required. 6:30 -8:30 PM at CUNY Law School Auditorium, 2 Court Square West, Long Island City, NY.
