Description: This training is for attorneys who wish to provide limited scope pro bono representation for the purpose of mediation in civil rights matters involving Section 1983. The training will include an overview of federal constitutional claims including wrongful arrest, excessive use of force, and claims involving conditions of confinement. This program will also discuss techniques for working with incarcerated clients and provide tips for representing these parties in the mediation context.
Upon completion of this training, attorneys will be eligible to apply to serve as pro bono advocates for the US Federal District Court for the Eastern District of New York Mediation Advocacy Program.
