This event is brought to you by Baker Hostetler’s Asian/South Pacific Affinity Group, the Asian American Bar Association of New York, and the Korean American Lawyers Association of Greater New York.

On behalf of Baker’s Asian/South Pacific Affinity Group, AABANY, and KALAGNY, and in honor of Asian American Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander Heritage Month, please join us for a fireside chat with the Honorable Goodwin Liu, Associate Justice of the California Supreme Court. The program will focus on Justice Liu’s career, pathway to the bench, and his work on the Portrait Project.

Prior to joining the bench in 2011, Justice Liu was Professor of Law and Associate Dean at the UC Berkeley School of Law. The son of Taiwanese immigrants, Justice Liu grew up in Sacramento, California. He earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Stanford, a master’s degree in philosophy and physiology from Oxford University on a Rhodes Scholarship, and a law degree from Yale. He clerked for Judge David Tatel on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit and for Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the U.S. Supreme Court. He has also worked in the litigation practice of O’Melveny & Myers, served as Special Assistant to the Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education, and helped launch the AmeriCorps national service program as Senior Program Officer for Higher Education at the Corporation for National Service.

Justice Liu has spearheaded the Portrait Project, “A Portrait of Asian Americans in the Law,” which focuses on empirical reasons why Asian Americans are underrepresented in top leadership positions across all sectors of the legal profession.

AABANY members are invited to attend the reception in person for free because AABANY is a co-sponsor of the event. Members must be logged in to register.
