On January 15, 2022, Michelle Alyssa Go, who was standing at the downtown R subway platform, was pushed by Martial Simon onto the front of an oncoming train. Simon, a 61-year-old schizophrenic and homeless man, has been charged with second-degree murder for Michelle Go's death. However, Simon has not yet been tried because he was found mentally unfit to stand trial. The killing of Michelle Go was a dramatic example of the rise in anti-Asian violence and hate since 2020.
On the fourth anniversary of the murder of Michelle Go, AABANY's Anti-Asian Violence Task Force is organizing a prayer walk, led by Judge Marilyn Go (Ret.), a member of the Task Force. We will assemble in front of the public access walkway at 160 West 45th Street and march down Broadway to the 42nd Street platform of the R subway. The prayer walk will be led by Justin Go, Michelle Go’s father, and Reverand Cristobal Tong, a Pastor at 3Stone/NYCAC, who also serves as a Spiritual Life Advisor at NYU. Please join AABANY and the community in honoring Michelle Go’s memory and in celebration of her life, along with the lives of the numerous victims and survivors of anti-Asian hate and violence in New York and around the country.
