The AABANY Wellness Committee and Membership Committee invite you to join us for a rejuvenating mindfulness Fall Wellness Retreat at Blue Cliff Monastery in upstate New York, designed exclusively for AABANY. With the stress and demands of the legal profession, nurturing our mental and emotional well-being is essential. Cost: Free to attend. Donation to the Monastery is highly encouraged, and we suggest a donation amount of at least $20 (collected on site). Transportation by van: On the registration form, please answer the required questions about transportation. We will reach out to anyone who needs transportation on payment and arrangements if you select yes. The cost of transportation is $50 per person, but $20 will be refunded after attendance. In the event that AABANY arranges transportation by van for attendees, please note that the meeting time will be 8:00 a.m. at a designated midtown Manhattan location. Directions to Blue Cliff Monastery - for those heading there by car Blue Cliff is located about two hours from New York City, two hours from Hartford, three hours from Philadelphia, and four hours from Boston. If using GPS, please note that “Mindfulness Road” is often listed as “Hotel Road.” The registration form also asks about anyone willing to offer carpool. If you can, please indicate so on the form and we will reach out if other participants are in need of carpool. A note about getting there by train: While there are directions on getting there by train, the schedule may not get you to the Monastery in time for the scheduled activities above. Agenda: The tentative agenda includes a series of programming aimed at meditation and mindfulness wellness, such as guided meditation sessions, a Dharma Talk, reflection and discussion, and networking. The tentative agenda is as follows: | 10:00 a.m. | Dharma Talk - Taking care of health through breath and steps Sharing basic practices with Monastery members and other groups If more than 5 children are in attendance, children will have their own program | | 11:00 a.m. | Orientation | | 11:30 a.m. | Walking meditation with Monastery members and other groups | | 12:30 p.m. | Lunch with Monastery members and other groups in the Sisters' Dining Hall. | | 1.30 p.m. | Bookstore open | | 2:00 p.m. | Deep Relaxation (45 minutes) in the Big Hall | | 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. | Working Meditation with Monastery members and other groups 15-minute transition: Cleaning hands, getting tea, walking to Meditation Hall | | 4:15 - 5:00 p.m. | Dharma Sharing and Closing Circle |
Children: Children ages 6 and older are welcome to join but it is recommended that children 12 and older attend certain guided meditation and mindfulness sessions. Blue Cliff will provide a mindfulness session for children ages 6 to 11 during certain sessions (if more than five children are in attendance). For children younger than 6 years of age, please note that Blue Cliff does not offer childcare, but there are spaces where younger children can play or relax during certain sessions (with supervision by the parents). Please indicate children and their age on the registration form. Food: Lunch will be provided for all. If you have any food allergies or diet restrictions, please note it when you register.
