AABANY Co-Sponsors: Unspoken Rules of the Legal Profession, Oct. 3
The New York City Bar Committee on Minorities in the Profession invites you to a panel event: "The Unspoken Rules of Success in the Legal Profession: What You May Not Hear in Your Professional Development Workshops." An esteemed and lively group of panelists will discuss the issues not often covered during attorney orientation and training, although they could be critical to the success of an attorney in the legal profession. "Is it really necessary for me to attend cocktail receptions?" "Should I delete my Facebook profile?" "Should I be working the same hours as my supervisor?" “Am I on the right track for partnership?” “How do I position myself for a promotion?” “What can I do to solidify my standing in a tough economy?” “I’m talented. Do I really need a mentor?” “How do I land on my feet if I fear I might lose my job?” Join us in an in-depth conversation with Paulette Brown (Partner and Chief Diversity Officer, Edwards Wildman & Palmer LLP), Andrew T. Hahn (Partner, Duane Morris LLP), Rhonda Joy McLean (Author and Deputy General Counsel, Time Inc.) and Ululy Martinez (Director of Government and Business, Cablevision), moderated by Jeanine Conley (Partner, BakerHostetler). For more details see the listing under Upcoming Events.

Fellowship Announcements: ACLU Karpatkin Fellowship
All Fellowship announcements can now be found on AABANY's website under Resources, in the sub-menu item "Fellowships." The Marvin M. Karpatkin Fellowship, established by the American Civil Liberties Union, is in memory of Marvin M. Karpatkin, the late General Counsel of the American Civil Liberties Union, who died in January 1975, at the age of 48. Mr. Karpatkin was one of the ACLU's most active attorneys during the 1960s and early 1970s. He left his special mark in the areas of selective service and military law. His interest in those areas grew out of his own strong opposition to the Vietnam War and his desire to help those who, younger than himself, were faced with performing military service in a war they would not support. Deadline to apply for this fellowhip is November 1. To see this and other announcements for Fellowships go to bit.ly/Fellowship_Announcmnts.
