For all those public-minded folks out there, our Government Service & Public Interest (GSPI) Committee and Pro Bono & Community Service (PBCS) Committee will be holding a joint meeting. The committee meeting will be held on March 1, 2016 at 6:30pm at the LSNYC office located at 40 Worth Street, Suite 606, New York, NY 10013. You will need to bring photo ID to get through security.

This program will provide an overview of various strategic considerations in IP licensing and portfolio management, including related tax considerations. A moderated discussion will highlight IP ownership and license structures in the EU and Asian jurisdictions (with a particular emphasis on China) and some of their tax implications. The employment of EU patent box regimes as part of U.S. multinationals’ global tax planning will also be discussed. Finally, the panelists will discuss recent developments in US law as they relate to IP considerations discussed earlier in the presentation.

Voting Rights in an Election Year for Communities of Color
With alarming levels of anti-immigrant sentiment and pivotal racial and economic justice issues on the line, we are in the midst of a presidential campaign with much at stake for communities of color. Though we’ve made important strides to defend the voting rights of our communities, there is still much to be done.
Our panel will speak about the challenges and issues creating barriers to the minority vote leading up to the 2016 general election. Attendees will hear about the work being done on the ground to break down those barriers, as well as the opportunity to learn about ways to practically engage in the work to protect and promote voting rights.

These committees are surveying everyone’s interest in the pro bono initiatives that they are developing, so that they can determine how to best allocate AABANY resources. The Office of the New York State Attorney General's Division of Appeals and Opinions is offering a two-year fellowship in government appellate litigation in its New York City Office. One fellowship is available. The Fellowship is a compensated, full-time position for a college graduate who is considering whether to pursue a career in law.
