AABANY's Annual Meeting is taking place on Feb. 13, 2019. We hope to see you there! At our Annual Meeting, elections will be conducted to elect several Board Directors and 7 AABANY Officers for the coming year. The Officer positions include:
President-Elect,
Vice President of Programs and Operations - 2 Positions,
Director of Development,
Treasurer,
Secretary, and
Membership Director.
The Nominations Committee welcomes applications to fill the vacancies immediately. The Nominations Committee will select a slate of candidates to be included on a ballot form that will be sent out to the membership a month before the Annual Meeting. The Nominations Committee plans to interview candidates during the week of December 17.

Applications may now be submitted for the 2019 Don H. Liu Scholars Program. The Program was founded in 2014 by two past presidents of the Asian American Bar Association of New York. The Program seeks to identify and cultivate future Asian American leaders in the legal community to address the single most important reality facing Asian American professionals today – the barrier to advancement.
This year, the Selection Committee will select up to 3 scholars. Each scholar will be awarded $15,000 and have access to prominent mentors, including Don H. Liu, Executive Vice President, Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel of Target Corporation. Additionally, scholars will have assistance in securing summer internships. AABANY’s Student Outreach Committee is excited to launch a group membership rate for law students at local Asian Pacific American Law Student Associations (APALSAs). For a group rate of $150, AABANY will offer up to 20 APALSA members free one-year memberships. This group rate covers all AABANY events, including CLE and non-CLE programs, networking events, AABANY’s Mentorship Program and AABANY’s Annual Fall Conference.
Please note that the current group rate covers up to 20 law students per law school. If the APALSA will have more than 20 participants, please reach out to Student Outreach Committee Co-Chair Edwin Kim (edwin.kim@aabany.org) to discuss pricing options for groups larger than 20.
This group rate represents a huge discount given that the regular rate for law students is $15 per person. For APALSA members who are already dues-paying members, participation in this group rate will extend current memberships by another year. If you are a member of an APALSA at a New York area law school and interested in participating, please have one representative from your APALSA reach out to Edwin Kim (edwin.kim@aabany.org) for further instructions.
This law student group rate offer will remain in effect until Monday, Dec. 3.

| AABANY’s Issues Committee is pleased to invite you to join the newly formed AABANY Community Response Task Force! The Community Response Task Force (CRTF) is AABANY’s answer to the rapidly changing legal landscape and the need for quick, effective, and coordinated responses to the emergent issues that affect our communities. AABANY is firmly committed to being a strong voice and steadfast advocate on behalf of the Asian-American/Pacific-Islander community. In the past several months, we have all been witness to sweeping changes that necessitated powerful legal responses. While there have been some great triumphs, there were often times when it was difficult to obtain information, to find ways to contribute, or to organize a response quickly enough to be effective.
The CRTF is specifically designed to address these needs. The CRTF will serve as a central clearinghouse for information and coordination – tailoring the alerts sent to each volunteer based on that volunteer’s preferences and the needs of the community. Alerts and actions will range from emergency legal services to direct non-legal service actions and from workshops to rallies. Read more here.

Judge seeks volunteer attorneys/law grads with experience in criminal, landlord-tenant or consumer debt matters. Judge presides on appellate cases and also handles some civil Supreme Court matters.
Full-time or four days per week preferred, but flexible schedule can be arranged. A wonderful learning and mentee opportunity, as well as an excellent resume-enhancer. Although not guaranteed, many of former volunteers have moved onto paying legal positions. Opportunity to enhance research/writing and oral skills.
