NEW YORK – June 19, 2019 – The Asian American Bar Association of New York (“AABANY”) , the Korean American Lawyers Association of Greater New York (“KALAGNY”), the South Asian Bar Association of New York (SABANY) and the Filipino American Lawyers Association of New York (“FALA New York”) condemn the process by which New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio formulated his plan to reform admissions to the city’s specialized high schools because he has shut out Asian American leaders and organizations from any meaningful participation. We believe that any legislation with such wide-ranging impact on all communities should not be permitted to move forward when the process by which it has been advanced to the legislature has been marked by excluding the voices of the Asian American community. NEW YORK – June 18, 2019 – The Asian American Bar Association of New York (“AABANY”) is proud to announce that applications for the Don H. Liu Scholars Program are now open. The Program was founded in 2014 by two past presidents of AABANY. The Program seeks to identify and cultivate future Asian American leaders in the legal community to address the single most important reality facing Asian American professionals today: the barrier to advancement. NEW YORK – June 5, 2019 – The Asian American Bar Association of New York (“AABANY”) congratulates the many Asian Pacific American judges and lawyers in New York that were honored during Asian Pacific American (APA) Heritage Month. “May has traditionally been a very busy month for AABANY as we celebrate the achievements of APA attorneys and the community they serve,” states Yang Chen, Executive Director. “This May has been extraordinarily busy, as a large number of our association’s leaders, members and friends received honors from other bar associations and groups. NEW YORK – May 24, 2019 – The Asian American Bar Association of New York (“AABANY”) is proud to announce that Kathy Hirata Chin, Partner at Crowell & Moring LLP and longstanding member of AABANY, will be honored at the New York County Lawyers Association (NYCLA) at the Inaugural Hong Yen Chang Reception on Tuesday, May 28, 2019. The Columbia Law School Association and Asian Columbia Alumni Association are recognizing Ms. Chin with this honor, and the reception is co-sponsored by AABANY, the Asian Practice Committee of NYCLA, the Korean American Lawyers Association of Greater New York, and the Network of Bar Leaders. NEW YORK – May 7, 2019 – The Asian American Bar Association of New York (“AABANY”) is proud to announce that the Honorable Lillian Wan, New York Court of Claims, Acting Supreme Court Justice,
New York County, will be honored at the Brooklyn Bar Association's 2019 Annual Meeting on May 8, 2019 as a recipient of its Diversity Award. The Brooklyn Bar Association is presenting this award for the first time, making Justice Wan the first judge to receive the honor. The award recognizes Justice Wan for exemplifying and advancing the values of diversity and inclusion in the legal profession and the community as a whole.

announce that the Honorable Dorothy Chin Brandt, former justice of the New York State Supreme Court, Queens County, will be honored at the Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month Celebration hosted by the Queens District Attorney’s Office of Immigrant Affairs on May 2, 2019. A recipient of countless recognitions, Justice Chin Brandt was recently awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Organization of Chinese Americans for her demonstrated sustained service in advocating for and supporting the Asian American Pacific Islander community. NEW YORK – May 1, 2019 – The Asian American Bar Association of New York (“AABANY”) congratulates Hon. Randall T. Eng, retired Presiding Justice of the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Second Department, on receiving the Charles W. Froessel Award from Queens County Bar Association. This award celebrates Justice Eng’s achievements as a legal professional and honors his contributions to the Queens County Bar Association. NEW YORK - April 16, 2019 - The Asian American Bar Association of New York (“AABANY”) enthusiastically supports the renomination of Board Member Diane Gujarati to serve as a United States district court judge in the Eastern District of New York. “We are pleased with the renomination of our former Board Director Diane Gujarati to the bench,” said Brian Song, President of AABANY. Ms. Gujarati was first nominated by President Obama in 2016, and subsequently renominated by President Trump in 2018. NEW YORK - Feb. 25, 2019 - On Wednesday, February 27, 2019, the Asian American Bar Association of New York (“AABANY”) will be hosting its Annual Dinner to celebrate our 30th anniversary at Cipriani Wall Street, 55 Wall Street, in New York City. The Annual Dinner is one of the signature events of the Asian Pacific American legal community and we are expecting to draw over 700 attorneys, judges, supporters and other business and community leaders. NEW YORK – February 11, 2019 – The Asian American Bar Association of New York (“AABANY”) congratulates James S. Lin on his recent promotion from Supreme Court Deputy for the Green Trial Zone to the position of Bureau Chief of the Green Zone in the Kings County District Attorney’s Office. NEW YORK, January 25, 2019 - New York City will celebrate its 2nd annual Fred Korematsu Day of Civil Liberties and the Constitution on Wednesday, January 30, 2019, hosted by the New York County Lawyers Association (NYCLA) at 14 Vesey Street from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm. This event marks Korematsu’s 100th birthday. The Fred Korematsu Day of Civil Liberties and the Constitution is already officially recognized in four states and was first officially celebrated in New York City in 2018. Spearheaded by the Asian Practice Committee of NYCLA, the Asian American Bar Association of New York joins the New York Day of Remembrance Committee and numerous community groups to organize this historic event. Click here to read the full press release.
