Many Asian New Yorkers were outraged and frightened by his violent attack on GuiYing Ma on November 26, 2021, in her Queens neighborhood. He struck her head twice with a large rock and she subsequently died from her injuries on February 22, 2022. As this article reports, Perez pled guilty to manslaughter and the promised sentence is 20 years in prison followed by 5 years of supervised release.
