● Discovery, Negotiation, and Preparing for Trial: - Assessment of the case - Discovery obligations of the parties - Speedy trial obligations - Plea bargain while preparing for trial - What the defendant-client should be doing in the meantime - Think mitigation - Motions to consider - Pre-trial hearings to consider - Best practices and strategies - Ethical considerations
● Trial: - Best practices and trial strategies - Consideration for jury trials - Examination techniques - Preserving issues for appeal - The anatomy of a criminal trial - Ethical considerations
● Sentencing and Appeals: - Navigating sentencing - Mitigation, domestic violence considerations - post-trial motions or appeals This program has been approved in accordance with the requirements of the CLE Board for a maximum of 1.5 credit hours towards the Skills requirement. This program is suitable for both transitional and non-transitional New York attorneys.
