Join the Committee on Minorities in the Profession as it shines a light on alternative careers for lawyers in the often overlooked, yet dynamic and rewarding fields of diversity and higher education. This event will focus on exploring roles for lawyers in these fields and tips for recent graduates and established lawyers seeking to transition to alternative careers in these fields. A networking session led by lawyers in diversity and higher education will follow.

Lawyers have always sought out alternative careers beyond the confines of the practice of the law to promote the common good by drawing upon their legal skills and experience. Contrary to the notion that a legal education is declining in value and utility, contributions from attorneys are highly valued by employers as they continue to recruit for “JD advantage” or “JD preferred” positions. It is critical for today’s recent graduates and experienced practitioners to adapt to the changing landscape of the legal industry by recognizing the value of their legal knowledge, skills, and experience across a wide spectrum of industries and settings.
