AABANY Annual Meeting Scheduled for Jan. 24

AABANY Night at the Theater: Chinglish

5th Annual PALS Retreat for New Associates of Color, Jan 25

Join PALS for a free All-Day intensive professional development workshop to help new attorneys of color maximize their first and second year of law firm practice. Next Annual Dinner Committee Call: Jan. 25

The next meeting of the Annual Dinner Committee will be by conference call on January 25 at 5 pm. If you are interested in helping AABANY plan its biggest event of the year, please contact Jean Lee, Annual Dinner Committee Chair, at [email protected]. The Annual Dinner will take place at Cipriani Wall Street on February 29, 2012.

USMJ Vacancy in SDNY

For those interested in applying to become a United States Magistrate Judge, here is an announcement from Theo Cheng, Co-Chair of the Judiciary Committee:

The United States District Court for the Southern District of New York has announced a vacancy for a full-time U.S. Magistrate Judge position in Manhattan. The SDNY's public notice, which contains additional information about the position and the application, is available on the court's website at http://www.nysd.uscourts.gov/cases/show.php?db=notice_bar&id=266. AABANY encourages all qualified attorneys with an interest in serving in the federal judiciary to submit an application, which is due no later than February 29, 2012. Earn CLE Credits by Judging National Mock Trial Competition

On March 10 and 11, 2012, Pace Law School in White Plains will again be hosting a National Mock Trial competition featuring some of the top schools in the country, including Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Princeton, Brown and Dartmouth, among others.

Pace is offering 3 free general CLE credits for all attorneys who volunteer to judge a round. A round lasts no longer than 3 hours. Free parking is available and Pace will provide complimentary food and beverage. You can judge as many rounds as you'd like.

NYSBA Antitrust Section Seeks Diverse Attorneys

The New York State Bar Association's Antitrust Section is seeking to diversify its membership and invites APA attorneys and law students to join the section. As part of this outreach, the section will pay for the registration fees associated with attending its annual meeting day program and evening events on January 26, 2012. Apply for AALFNY 2012 Community Service Scholarships

The Asian American Law Fund of New York, Inc. (the “Fund”), a non-profit organization originally established in 1993 by the Asian American Bar Association of New York (“AABANY”), invites law students to apply for its Community Service Scholarship Awards (“Asian American Law Fund Scholarship” or the “Scholarship”). The Fund will award Scholarships in the amount of $5000 each to up to three law students with a demonstrated commitment to the Asian American community. The purpose of the award is to assist law students with their tuition while encouraging them to use their legal knowledge and training to benefit the Asian American community in New York and to foster commitment by law students to public service to the Asian American community in New York.

The completed Scholarship Application and all required materials must be postmarked by April 1, 2012. Applications and further information can be found at bit.ly/AALFNY_Schlrshps2012. NCLEJ Public Interest Fellowship Application Now Being Accepted

The National Center for Law and Economic Justice (NCLEJ) is now accepting applications for Dodyk Fellows for a two-year term starting in September 2012:

The Paul M. Dodyk Fellowship for Economic Justice has been established by generous donors to the National Center for Law and Economic Justice in honor of Paul M. Dodyk, past Chair of NCLEJ and a great champion of using the law to promote economic justice and fair and dignified treatment for everyone in our society, regardless of their means. The Fellowship is designed to foster the next generation of lawyers working for economic justice while enhancing NCLEJ’s capacity to serve those who have the least in our society.
