Text to Donate in Support of the Pro Bono Clinic

During the cocktail reception at the Northeast Regional/Fall Conference, we announced that the Pro Bono Clinic has set a fundraising goal of $25,000 to support its growing operations. To make it easier for our members and our community to donate to the Pro Bono Clinic, we have set up a page on Give Lively where you can make a donation by texting APAPROBONO  to 44321. It takes seconds to donate, and we hope you will take a moment today to support the Pro Bono Clinic and help it meet its fundraising goal. Through the generosity of those who gave at the cocktail reception at the Fall Conference, we already have collected more than $1300. Just $23,700 more to go! Please donate today.

2019 NAPABA Northeast Regional/AABANY Fall Conference Recap

On Saturday, September 21, 2019, AABANY held its 10th annual Fall Conference together with NAPABA for the 2019 NAPABA Northeast Regional/AABANY Fall Conference, “United in Action and Vision: Towards 2020 Together.” For the third year in a row, the conference took place in Fordham University School of Law. This year marked our biggest yet, with about 450 attendees throughout the day.

This year, many programs throughout the morning and afternoon offered CLE credits to attending attorneys. Twenty CLE programs were available, covering many different topics ranging from Asian American Voter Protection to Pro Bono Clinics. Also available were non-CLE programs such as the In-House Counsel Forum and “Asian American Women Corporate Counsel in Television.” In addition to all the programs offered at the Fall Conference, we had Pitch Sessions, Trial Advocacy Program (TAP), Professional Development Coaching sessions, and a Diversity Career Fair and Expo. Numerous employers from all over New York City and State set up informational tables at the Diversity Career Fair to speak with prospective candidates.

Applications are now being Accepted for the 2019-2020 Don H. Liu Scholars Program

AABANY is proud to announce that applications for the Don H. Liu Scholars Program are now open. The Program was founded in 2014 by two past presidents of AABANY. The Program seeks to identify and cultivate future Asian American leaders in the legal community to address the single most important reality facing Asian American professionals today: the barrier to advancement. This year, the Selection Committee will select up to three scholars. Each scholar will be awarded $15,000 each and have access to prominent mentors, including Don H. Liu, Executive Vice President, Chief Legal and Risk Officer of Target Corporation. The Program will also provide assistance in career development, including identifying potential internships.

Details and more information about the Program can be found at http://www.donhliuscholars.org.

For more details on the application process and eligibility requirements, please find the application package here: http://www.donhliuscholars.org/application/. To read AABANY's full press release, click here

Join the AABANY Community Response Task Force

AABANY’s Issues Committee is pleased to invite you to join the newly formed AABANY Community Response Task Force! The Community Response Task Force (CRTF) is AABANY’s answer to the rapidly changing legal landscape and the need for quick, effective, and coordinated responses to the emergent issues that affect our communities. AABANY is firmly committed to being a strong voice and steadfast advocate on behalf of the Asian-American/Pacific-Islander community. In the past several months, we have all been witness to sweeping changes that necessitated powerful legal responses. While there have been some great triumphs, there were often times when it was difficult to obtain information, to find ways to contribute, or to organize a response quickly enough to be effective.

The CRTF is specifically designed to address these needs. The CRTF will serve as a central clearinghouse for information and coordination – tailoring the alerts sent to each volunteer based on that volunteer’s preferences and the needs of the community. Alerts and actions will range from emergency legal services to direct non-legal service actions and from workshops to rallies. Read more here.
