Where can I get tested or treated if I am feeling sick?
Based on guidance from CDC, if you have any of the following symptoms, go to an emergency room or call 911:
If you have mild to moderate symptoms of COVID-19, isolate yourself at home immediately.
After three to four days, if you still feel sick, contact your health care provider who will evaluate your symptoms and order testing for you if needed.
If you do not have a health care provider and you are in New York City, call 311 or contact NYC Health + Hospitals directly at 844-692-4692. The City of New York will provide medical care no matter what your immigration status is and whether you can pay for it or not. Please note that the City of New York is NOT setting up COVID-19 tests directly with patients. If you receive such a call, it is a scam.
Testing can also be performed in a number of NYC Health + Hospitals centers and at selected drive-through testing sites in various places of New York State.
All testing sites require an appointment, which can be made by calling the NY State Coronavirus hotline at 888-364-3065.
As tests are still limited, a number of prescreening questions will be asked. Individuals with no/mild symptoms are currently not tested at these centers to allow testing to be performed on individuals who have increased health risk.
An expert COVID-19 physician will then be reached. He/she will determine if testing eligibility applies. If so, you will be added to a waitlist to be called back with an appointment date. Due to high demand, testing will most likely not be for the same day.
What if I do not have a medical insurance?
Regardless of your immigration status, a low income person is eligible for free COVID-19 testing, evaluation and treatment through Emergency Medicaid. If you are not enrolled in Emergency Medicaid or other coverage, you can apply for free through New York State of Health by calling 855-355-5777 or visit https://nystateofhealth.ny.gov/.

You can also apply for coverage through NY State of Health or directly to insurers during a special enrollment period that ends May 15, 2020. If you lost employer coverage, you must apply within 60 days of losing that coverage. Because of a loss of income, you may also be eligible for Medicaid, the Essential Plan, subsidized Qualified Health Plans or Child Health Plus.
