Join Us in Reaching a Membership Milestone of 1,500 Members!

AABANY is excited to announce that it now has more than 1,400 paid members! In celebration of reaching this historic milestone, we invite you to join us in a push to add 100 more members by the end of this summer, so that we can celebrate 1,500 members! With your help, we hope to continue our growth as the largest diverse bar association in New York.

AABANY members include a wide cross-section of legal professionals: attorneys, law students, judges, prosecutors, public interest lawyers, law professors, paralegals, among others -- all brought together by our Asian American, Pacific Islander, and South Asian heritage, and our common goal of enhancing diversity, equity and inclusion in the legal profession.

We host numerous CLE events throughout the year at which our members can develop professionally and expand their professional networks. In addition to advancing our members’ professional careers, we pride ourselves on our commitment to giving back to our communities. We have actively made resources available online to those adversely affected by COVID-19 and have continued our Pro Bono Clinic as a remote operation. We also host a variety of social and cultural events that have included Mets and Yankee games in the summer and a Night at the Opera for our members. If you wish to join a professional community dedicated to career advancement, community impact, and fun, please consider joining AABANY.

To encourage non-members to join and former members to renew, we are offering 20% off all memberships from now until August 31, 2020. Help us get to 1,500! Help AABANY make history!

AABANY Relaunches Pro Bono Legal Clinic Remotely to Assist Asian Pacific American Community

During this period of upheaval caused by the evolving Covid-19 pandemic, the Asian American Bar Association of New York (“AABANY”) will be reopening its pro bono legal clinic in a remote capacity to continue aiding the Asian Pacific American community with legal issues including: immigration, housing, employment, family, and elder law. To promote the remote clinic as well as other rich resources relating to the Covid-19 pandemic that AABANY has developed, student volunteers will be going door-to-door this Friday, July 3, to share informational flyers with Asian neighborhood small businesses and residents in Manhattan and Queens. Read the full press release here.

AABANY Publishes Flyer with COVID-19 Legal Relief Resources

On June 16, AABANY published a flyer with a comprehensive list of digital resources for those seeking legal relief arising out of COVID-19 related issues.

The flyer provides links for resources in multiple areas, including Small Business Labor and Employment, Restructuring and Bankruptcy, and other pages listing more general information, such as knowing your rights if you encounter anti-Asian racism or harassment and frequently asked questions.

Many of the resources are available in other languages, including Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean, and Japanese.

Census 2020: Together, we can ensure that our community receives the resources it needs

Join the AABANY Community Response Task Force

AABANY’s Issues Committee is pleased to invite you to join the AABANY Community Response Task Force! The Community Response Task Force (CRTF) is AABANY’s answer to the rapidly changing legal landscape and the need for quick, effective, and coordinated responses to the emergent issues that affect our communities. AABANY is firmly committed to being a strong voice and steadfast advocate on behalf of the Asian-American/Pacific-Islander community. During these challenging times, we have all been witness to sweeping changes that necessitated powerful legal responses. While there have been some great triumphs, there were often times when it was difficult to obtain information, to find ways to contribute, or to organize a response quickly enough to be effective.

The CRTF is specifically designed to address these needs. The CRTF will serve as a central clearinghouse for information and coordination – tailoring the alerts sent to each volunteer based on that volunteer’s preferences and the needs of the community. Alerts and actions will range from emergency legal services to direct non-legal service actions and from workshops to rallies.

PLEASE NOTE that the  Community Response Task Force form has been updated.  Even if you have already filled out the form,  we kindly ask that you resubmit your interest here.
