Last week, some AABANY members may have received the following notification from NAPABA: "To be eligible to vote in the 2020-21 NAPABA Board of Governors election, you must be an active member of NAPABA by August 3." Most likely you
got this email because you did not activate your FREE affiliate membership earlier this year. To get the code to do so, contact membership@aabany.org. As we indicated previously, NAPABA memberships
are based on the calendar year, meaning that your NAPABA Affiliate Membership will expire on December 31. Therefore, if you waited until now to contact us for your code, you will have about five months left to your NAPABA Affiliate Membership.
Please update your membership asap.

AABANY is excited to announce that it now has more than 1,400 paid members! In celebration of reaching this historic milestone, we invite you to join us in a push to add 100 more members by the end of this summer, so that we can celebrate 1,500
members! With your help, we hope to continue our growth as the largest diverse bar association in New York.
AABANY members include a wide cross-section of legal professionals: attorneys, law students, judges, prosecutors, public
interest lawyers, law professors, paralegals, among others -- all brought together by our Asian American, Pacific Islander, and South Asian heritage, and our common goal of enhancing diversity, equity and inclusion in the legal profession.
We
host numerous CLE events throughout the year at which our members can develop professionally and expand their professional networks. In addition to advancing our members’ professional careers, we pride ourselves on our commitment to
giving back to our communities. We have actively made resources available online to those adversely affected by COVID-19 and have continued our Pro Bono Clinic as a remote operation. We also host a variety of social and cultural events
that have included Mets and Yankee games in the summer and a Night at the Opera for our members. If you wish to join a professional community dedicated to career advancement, community impact, and fun, please consider joining AABANY.

|
To encourage non-members to join and former members to renew, we are offering 20% off all memberships from now until August 31, 2020. Help us get to 1,500! Help AABANY make history!
Please contact membership@aabany.org for
the discount code, or if you have any questions.

On June 16, AABANY published a flyer with a comprehensive list of digital resources for those seeking legal relief arising out of COVID-19 related issues.
The flyer provides links for resources in multiple areas, including Small
Business Labor and Employment, Restructuring and Bankruptcy, and other pages listing more general information, such as knowing your rights if you encounter anti-Asian racism or harassment and frequently asked questions.
Many
of the resources are available in other languages, including Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean, and Japanese.
Click on the image to the left to access the flyer as a PDF, which includes embedded links to the resources mentioned above.

On July 17, 2020, the Membership Committee hosted their weekly Zoom Membership Mixer, with 26 participants in attendance. The icebreaker question posed to the participants was: “What is your talent, or if you don’t have a talent,
what talent do you wish you had?” Members overwhelmingly said they were piano players. For the people who didn’t have special talents, they wished they could speak foreign languages, sing, play musical instruments or code their own
video games. To read the full blog post and to see images of the Talent Show participants, read here.

Asian Americans are one of the fastest growing groups in the United States. For Asian American communities to be properly represented in government decision making and to receive a proper allocation of funding, we must complete the census.

| AABANY’s Issues Committee is pleased to invite you to join the AABANY Community Response Task Force! The Community Response Task Force (CRTF) is AABANY’s answer to the rapidly changing legal landscape and the need for quick, effective, and
coordinated responses to the emergent issues that affect our communities. AABANY is firmly committed to being a strong voice and steadfast advocate on behalf of the Asian-American/Pacific-Islander community. During these challenging times,
we have all been witness to sweeping changes that necessitated powerful legal responses. While there have been some great triumphs, there were often times when it was difficult to obtain information, to find ways to contribute, or to organize
a response quickly enough to be effective.
The CRTF is specifically designed to address these needs. The CRTF will serve as a central clearinghouse for information and coordination – tailoring the alerts sent to each volunteer based on that volunteer’s preferences and the needs of the community. Alerts and actions will range from emergency legal services to direct non-legal service actions and from workshops to rallies.
PLEASE NOTE that the Community Response Task Force form has been updated. Even if you have already filled out the form, we kindly ask that you resubmit your interest here.
