Join AABANY’s Legal Referral and Information Service Panel

This fall, AABANY is launching a legal referral and information service (“LRIS”) as a public service primarily to help the general public, and especially the Asian American community. The goals of the LRIS are to provide information and referrals, to recommend lawyers or other resources to provide competent, ethical legal advice and representation, to educate the public about legal representation and to increase respect for the legal profession.

We are seeking qualified and experienced lawyers to serve on the panels of lawyers eligible to receive referrals from AABANY’s LRIS. Our current plan is to start the program on October 1st or as soon thereafter as possible.

This is a vital program for AABANY that we anticipate will greatly benefit our panelists and fellow members as well as the public, and especially the Asian American community. If you would like to apply to be considered for the LRIS panel, please contact main@aabany.org and we will send you an application form. If you have any questions, please send them to the same address.

We hope you can join us in the launch of this important new AABANY initiative.

Buy a Button to Fight Anti-Asian Violence and Support our Pro Bono Clinic

The COVID-19 era has brought more challenges to our Asian American community in New York, with anti-Asian violence on the rise and many New Yorkers facing serious legal issues in housing and immigration, as well as challenges due to economic hardships. Our Pro Bono Clinic has gone remote to provide legal information and assistance.

To raise funds for our Pro Bono Clinic, AABANY member Joane Siyan Wong has created a "One Humanity Against the Virus" button. Buy one for $10 or two for $15 at

https://www.aabany.org/store/ListProducts.aspx?catid=797146

Please show your support by buying one, two or a dozen buttons. Help spread the message of unity, fight anti-Asian violence and harassment, and support the efforts of the Pro Bono Clinic. Thank you!

Join Us in Reaching a Membership Milestone of 1,500 Members!

AABANY is excited to announce that it now has more than 1,400 paid members! In celebration of reaching this historic milestone, we invite you to join us in a push to add 100 more members by the end of this summer, so that we can celebrate 1,500 members! With your help, we hope to continue our growth as the largest diverse bar association in New York.

AABANY members include a wide cross-section of legal professionals: attorneys, law students, judges, prosecutors, public interest lawyers, law professors, paralegals, among others -- all brought together by our Asian American, Pacific Islander, and South Asian heritage, and our common goal of enhancing diversity, equity and inclusion in the legal profession.

We host numerous CLE events throughout the year at which our members can develop professionally and expand their professional networks. In addition to advancing our members’ professional careers, we pride ourselves on our commitment to giving back to our communities. We have actively made resources available online to those adversely affected by COVID-19 and have continued our Pro Bono Clinic as a remote operation. We also host a variety of social and cultural events that have included Mets and Yankee games in the summer and a Night at the Opera for our members. If you wish to join a professional community dedicated to career advancement, community impact, and fun, please consider joining AABANY.

To encourage non-members to join and former members to renew, we are offering 20% off all memberships. Help us get to 1,500! Help AABANY make history!

Please contact membership@aabany.org for the discount code, or if you have any questions.

Join Our Contest to Recruit New Members to Attain 1,500 in 2020!

AABANY is inviting all current members to participate in our contest to achieve our goal of reaching a membership milestone of 1,500 members! If you have enjoyed any of our events that we have hosted or co-sponsored and any of the resources that we offer, refer a friend! Whether it be a fellow attorney you may know, a judge, prosecutor, paralegal, law student, or even your law professor, let them know about AABANY. We are giving a prize to a current member who refers the highest number of new or renewing members. To be eligible, tell your friend to fill in your name where it says “Referred by a Member?” (See image below.) Help AABANY get to 1,500 in 2020!

Asian Americans are one of the fastest growing groups in the United States. For Asian American communities to be properly represented in government decision making and to receive a proper allocation of funding, we must complete the census.

Join the AABANY Community Response Task Force

AABANY’s Issues Committee is pleased to invite you to join the AABANY Community Response Task Force! The Community Response Task Force (CRTF) is AABANY’s answer to the rapidly changing legal landscape and the need for quick, effective, and coordinated responses to the emergent issues that affect our communities. AABANY is firmly committed to being a strong voice and steadfast advocate on behalf of the Asian-American/Pacific-Islander community. During these challenging times, we have all been witness to sweeping changes that necessitated powerful legal responses. While there have been some great triumphs, there were often times when it was difficult to obtain information, to find ways to contribute, or to organize a response quickly enough to be effective.

The CRTF is specifically designed to address these needs. The CRTF will serve as a central clearinghouse for information and coordination – tailoring the alerts sent to each volunteer based on that volunteer’s preferences and the needs of the community. Alerts and actions will range from emergency legal services to direct non-legal service actions and from workshops to rallies.

PLEASE NOTE that the  Community Response Task Force form has been updated.  Even if you have already filled out the form,  we kindly ask that you resubmit your interest here.
