On January 15, 2022, Michelle Alyssa Go, who was standing at the downtown R subway platform, was pushed by Martial Simon onto the front of an oncoming train. Simon, a 61-year-old schizophrenic and homeless man, has been charged with second-degree murder for Michelle Go's death. However, Simon has not yet been tried because he was found mentally unfit to stand trial. The killing of Michelle Go was a dramatic example of the rise in anti-Asian violence and hate since 2020.
On the fourth anniversary of the murder of Michelle Go, AABANY's Anti-Asian Violence Task Force is organizing a prayer walk, led by Judge Marilyn Go (Ret.), a member of the Task Force. We will assemble in front of the public access walkway at 160 West 45th Street and march down Broadway to the 42nd Street platform of the R subway. The prayer walk will be led by Justin Go, Michelle Go’s father, and Reverend Cristobal Tong, a Pastor at 3Stone/NYCAC, who also serves as a Spiritual Life Advisor at NYU. Please join AABANY and the community in honoring Michelle Go’s memory and in celebration of her life, along with the lives of the numerous victims and survivors of anti-Asian hate and violence in New York and around the country.

The Trusts & Estates Committee of AABANY will host its monthly meeting virtually during a brown bag session. We welcome practitioners and anyone interested in trusts and estates, elder law and guardianship to join us.
On December 22, 2025, members of AABANY’s Intellectual Property (IP) Committee gathered for a festive close to 2025 at Muna restaurant.
The evening kicked off with a warm welcome as attendees enjoyed a relaxed sit-down dinner where old friends and new faces got to meet and mingle. This gathering has become a favorite way for IP practitioners within the AABANY community to reflect on the year’s accomplishments, share highlights from 2025, and look ahead to what’s to come in 2026.
AABANY, in partnership with the Asian American Law Fund of New York (AALFNY), is pleased to announce the Turning the Tide (T3) Project. Following the February 10, 2021 publication of AABANY and Paul, Weiss’ report, A Rising Tide of Hate and Violence against Asian Americans in New York During COVID-19: Impact, Causes, Solutions, AABANY established an Anti-Asian Violence Task Force to advance the proposals outlined in the report and consider other solutions to address the surge of anti-Asian hate and violence in the community. The Task Force advances the T3
project, which aims to incorporate a three-pronged approach encompassing education and communication, advocacy, and research, to address anti-Asian hate and violence.
Please stand together with AABANY and AALFNY in turning
the tide against anti-Asian hate and violence. We are now accepting donations to support the T3 Project. Donations can be made to AALFNY and will be tax deductible to the extent permitted by applicable law.

about the T3 Project, please click here.
In Fall 2020, AABANY launched a legal referral and information service (“LRIS”) as a public service primarily to help the general public, and especially the Asian American community. The goals of the LRIS are to provide information and referrals,
to recommend lawyers or other resources to provide competent, ethical legal advice and representation, to educate the public about legal representation and to increase respect for the legal profession.
We are seeking qualified
and experienced lawyers to serve on the panels of lawyers eligible to receive referrals from AABANY’s LRIS.
This is a vital program for AABANY that we anticipate will greatly benefit our panelists and fellow members as well
as the public, and especially the Asian American community. If you would like to apply to be considered for the LRIS panel, please contact joinlris@aabany.org, and we will send you an application
form. If you have any questions, please send them to the same address.
