The Deadline for submission of your materials is August 15th by 8 P.M. EST.

|
When: 06/30/2026, 3:00-4:00 pm Where: Online
At a time when the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program has been suspended and affirmative asylum processing has slowed dramatically, this CLE will
provide an overview of the current legal and policy landscape affecting refugees and asylum seekers. Participants will learn about the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program, how individuals fleeing conflict and persecution may meet the legal
definition of a refugee, and the similarities and distinctions between refugee and asylum protections. The program will also examine how recent Executive Orders have impacted humanitarian pathways and access to protection.
Importantly, non-immigration attorneys will learn practical ways to support refugees and asylees through pro bono legal assistance short of full representation. Topics may include Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, adjustment
of status applications, employment authorization document (EAD) filings, country conditions research, and other critical forms of legal support.

| Highlight: Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor for the City of New York Screens Voices Against Anti-Asian Hate Documentary for Asian American, Native Hawaii, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month |
|

On Thursday, May 21, 2026, during AANHPI Heritage Month, the NYC Office of Special Narcotics brought together staff and community members for a screening of Voices Against Anti-Asian Hate,
a documentary co-produced by the Asian American Bar Association of New York (AABANY) and the Asian American Law Fund of New York (AALFNY). The film centers on the deeply personal experiences of individuals and families impacted by
anti-Asian violence. The event presented a moment to sit with America’s history of anti-Asian violence and its haunting legacy: from the exclusion laws of the 19th century, to the internment camps of World War II, to the waves of attacks
that surged during the COVID-19 pandemic and continues today.

| T3 Project: Stand Together with AABANY and AALFNY in Turning the Tide Against Anti-Asian Hate and Violence |
|
AABANY, in partnership with the Asian American
Law Fund of New York (AALFNY), is pleased to announce the Turning the
Tide (T3) Project. Following the February 10, 2021 publication of AABANY
and Paul, Weiss’ report, A Rising Tide of Hate and Violence against Asian Americans in New York During COVID-19: Impact, Causes, Solutions,
AABANY established an Anti-Asian Violence Task Force
to advance the proposals outlined in the report and consider other
solutions to address the surge of anti-Asian hate and violence in the
community. The Task Force advances the T3
project, which aims to incorporate a three-pronged
approach encompassing education and communication, advocacy, and
research, to address anti-Asian hate and violence.
Please stand
together with AABANY and AALFNY in turning
the tide against anti-Asian hate and violence. We
are now accepting donations to support the T3 Project. Donations can be
made to AALFNY and will be tax deductible to the extent permitted by
applicable law.
