 AABANY proudly presents its 5th Annual Fall Conference, Empowering Progress & Unity, on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014 hosted by Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP.
In addition to a full day of CLE programs on cutting edge topics presented by AABANY committees, attendees are also invited to participate in AABANY’s Law Firm Pitch Sessions and Career Exchange. The conference also includes Career and Business Development seminars and will close with a cocktail reception and Committee Dinners for practitioners to mix, mingle and connect. The Mentorship Program will also hold its kickoff meeting for mentors and mentees. We hope you will join us.

AABANY is pleased to announce the opening of its Mentorship Program for 2014-15. This is the fourth year that AABANY has been formally matching mentors and mentees.
The purpose of the program is to provide support, advice, and networking opportunities to aid both mentors and mentees in their professional and personal development. Each mentee is matched to a mentor who will serve as a teacher, role model, and resource to the mentee. By way of one-to-one relationships and events held throughout the year, the program will provide the structure to advance the professional growth, and legal and networking skills of both mentors and mentees. Mentors and mentees will be AABANY members and may come from any level of experience and practice area.
The program will be launched during the cocktail reception at the AABANY Fall Conference to be held on September 20, 2014 at Morgan Lewis, 101 Park Avenue, NY, NY.

The deadline to register for the competition is Friday, September 12, 2014.
The Thomas Tang Moot Court Competition is an appellate advocacy competition sponsored annually by the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association Law Foundation (NAPABA Law Foundation), an IRC § 501(c)(3) non-profit, charitable and educational affiliate of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA). The NAPABA Law Foundation works closely with the National Asian Pacific American Law Students Association (NAPALSA) and its local affiliates at law schools across the country. The purpose of this Competition is to develop advocacy skills without regard to the merit of the petitioner’s or respondent’s cases.

SABANY Pro Bono Clearinghouse will be partnering with the Office of the NYC Public Advocate for an upcoming immigration legal clinic. Without amazing PBC volunteers, we would not have the capacity to reach our community and serve them, so thank you so much.
What: Immigration Legal Clinic for South Asians
When: August 9, 2014
Time: 12-4pm (can volunteer for 2 hour slots)
Where: PS 69 located at 77-02 37 Ave. Queens, NY (Near the E, F, M, R, and 7 trains).
Need: Immigration and Criminal Law Attorneys (please let us
know if you speak a South Asian language though not required)
A bit of an overview, the workshop is a session for members of the South Asian community to learn the basics of current immigration laws, available public services, interacting with law enforcement, and understanding their civil rights. Our attorney volunteers will be giving a quick 10-15 minute consultations over a 4 hour period. Click here for more information.

On Tuesday, August 5, 7pm-9pm, the Kupferberg Holocaust Resource Center and the Korean American Civic Empowerment organization will present "In the Face of Tyranny, I Will Not Be Silent" at Queensborough Community College (222-05 56th Ave., Bayside, NY 11364).
Comfort Women Survivors Oksun Lee and Ilchool Kang will share their stories. Special presentations will be made by Holocaust Survivors and Interns from the Asian Social Justice Internship Program.
Join us as we honor these brave women and listen to their stories of a more than 70-year search for justice.

FACL/NAPABA Northeast Regional Conference and Gala 2014

The Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers and the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association is teaming up for the Northeast Regional Conference and Gala 2014. The theme of this year is "Breakthrough!: Shattering Barriers and Creating Opportunities."
The Northeast Regional this year will be held on September 27, 2014 at the Dominion Ballroom of the Sheraton Centre Hotel in Toronto, Ontario. The Keynote Speaker will be the Honorable Denny Chin of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
