During the 2017 AABANY Fall Conference, conference registrants will have an opportunity to participate in Pitch Sessions. The Pitch Sessions provide a platform for law firm attorney and solo practitioners to make meaningful connections with in-house counsels interested in legal services.
To register and for more information go to:
https://conference2017.aabany.org/pitch-sessions/
NOTE: Deadline to register is August 31.
Please sign up for "How to Pitch," taking place on Sept. 14. This event will feature a dynamic panel of senior in-house attorneys who will discuss what companies are looking for in an outside counsel, how to get and prepare for a pitch, the "dos and don'ts" of pitching and other insights into the client development process. This panel will offer practical strategies for attorneys who want to become more savvy and effective in developing new business and marketing your firm.
The speakers are from companies signed up to participate in the Pitch Sessions at the Fall Conference, so this panel presents a great opportunity to hear directly their thoughts on what makes an effective pitch.

In 2015, former AABANY Board member Steve Chung began a series of group mentoring workshops designed to break down abstract concepts like “networking” and “branding” and translate them into concrete, actionable strategies to help AABANY members advance their careers. This year, we will be continuing Steve’s efforts by transforming the group mentoring workshops into a formal Professional Development Coaching Series led by Marianne Chow and Jeff Ikejiri (Co-Chairs), and Christina Nguyen (Vice Chair).
We are proud to kick off this year-long Series with one-on-one or small group sessions that will take place throughout the day at the 2017 Fall Conference, in which a distinguished group of faculty members will meet with participants to troubleshoot specific professional and personal development issues that may be impeding your career advancement. The goal is to help you come up with a game plan to address such development issues and help you move forward and rise up in the legal profession. Based on feedback from these sessions at the Fall Conference, the Professional Development Coaching Series leadership team will design hands-on, practical workshops throughout the year to develop those skills that are most critical to the participants and the larger AABANY membership.
If you are interested in taking part in the Professional Development Coaching Sessions, you can register at bit.ly/fc17pdcreg by September 8. (Fall Conference registration is required to participate in the Professional Development Coaching Sessions.) Each session is expected to run for 30 to 45 minutes. The faculty member assignment and time slot for each participant will be based on the responses received as well as the faculty members’ schedules.

AABANY’s Issues Committee is pleased to invite you to join the newly formed AABANY Community Response Task Force!
The Community Response Task Force (CRTF) is AABANY’s answer to the rapidly changing legal landscape and the need for quick, effective, and coordinated responses to the emergent issues that affect our communities. AABANY is firmly committed to being a strong voice and steadfast advocate on behalf of the Asian-American/Pacific-Islander community. In the past several months, we have all been witness to sweeping changes that necessitated powerful legal responses. While there have been some great triumphs, there were often times when it was difficult to obtain information, to find ways to contribute, or to organize a response quickly enough to be effective.
The CRTF is specifically designed to address these needs. The CRTF will serve as a central clearinghouse for information and coordination – tailoring the alerts sent to each volunteer based on that volunteer’s preferences and the needs of the community. Alerts and actions will range from emergency legal services to direct non-legal service actions and from workshops to rallies.

It’s a story of resilience, courage, and justice in the face of power. ABACUS: Small Enough to Jail documents the legal battle of the Sung family, Chinese immigrants and owners of Abacus Federal Savings in Chinatown. In the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis, Abacus was the only bank in the United States to be charged with a crime, accused of mortgage fraud by Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance, Jr. Over the course of five years, the Sungs embark on an existential legal battle in defense of themselves and their Chinatown community, and over the fact that, in an industry of powerful interests and influential corporations, no bank should be small enough to jail. Don’t miss this true, David vs. Goliath story from acclaimed director Steve James (Hoop Dreams, The Interrupters, Life Itself). READ MORE HERE.
AABANY is proud to be outreach partner for this screening taking place on Sept, 6 at the Asia Society. All AABANY members can see ABACUS: Small Enough to Jail at a discounted price with the code “AABA090617.” Select “Non-Member Adult” ticket, proceed to check-out, add the code, and then click activate. Using this code, attendees will pay $10 instead of $15 for the ticket. Click here to buy tickets. We hope to see you there!
