Around this time each year, AABANY has traditionally held one of its most popular events, the Annual Picnic. We looked forward to gathering in Central Park, in a large section that we would have to ourselves, via a permit we received from the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation. After due deliberation with our Board and Committee Chairs, we have decided to cancel the Annual Picnic due to COVID-19. Despite hopes that the severity of the pandemic would have subsided in time for the picnic, current circumstances dictate that we remain cautious and minimize any possible risk of exposure for our members and the friends and family that accompany them. No permits are being issued at this time by the Parks Department for groups larger than 50, and our Annual Picnic would have drawn such a large group. AABANY remains committed to complying with authoritative health and safety regulations and guidance. We wish everyone a safe and healthy summer, and we urge you all to continue practicing social distancing and observing all health and safety protocols during these challenging times. |

The COVID-19 era has brought more challenges to our Asian American community in New York, with anti-Asian violence on the rise and many New Yorkers facing serious legal issues in housing and immigration, as well as challenges due to economic
hardships. Our Pro Bono Clinic has gone remote to provide legal information and assistance.
To raise funds for our Pro Bono Clinic,
AABANY member Joane Siyan Wong has created a "One Humanity Against the Virus" button. Buy one for $10 or two for $15 at
https://www.aabany.org/store/ListProducts.aspx?catid=797146
Please show your support by buying one, two or a dozen buttons. Help spread the message of unity, fight anti-Asian violence and harassment, and support the efforts of the Pro Bono Clinic. Thank you! Click here or on the image below to purchase

AABANY members include a wide cross-section of legal professionals: attorneys, law students, judges, prosecutors, public
interest lawyers, law professors, paralegals, among others -- all brought together by our Asian American, Pacific Islander, and South Asian heritage, and our common goal of enhancing diversity, equity and inclusion in the legal profession.
We

AABANY is excited to announce that Executive Director Yang Chen has been quoted by the Albany Law School in a newsletter sent out to admitted students.
Albany Law School wrote:
Law school offers incredible opportunities for learning and growth—both personally and professionally. And for those looking to expand their professional networks or boost their resumes, a bar association membership can be a great addition to coursework, extracurriculars, and journals.
It may sound like something you can only do after earning your J.D., but that’s not the case. Joining a bar association—an organization for legal professionals—at the student level has numerous benefits. Many organizations have specialized programming and offerings just for law students.
Want to know more? We spoke with representatives from several bar associations about some of the reasons for getting involved as a law student.

| AABANY’s Issues Committee is pleased to invite you to join the AABANY Community Response Task Force! The Community Response Task Force (CRTF) is AABANY’s answer to the rapidly changing legal landscape and the need for quick, effective, and
coordinated responses to the emergent issues that affect our communities. AABANY is firmly committed to being a strong voice and steadfast advocate on behalf of the Asian-American/Pacific-Islander community. During these challenging times,
we have all been witness to sweeping changes that necessitated powerful legal responses. While there have been some great triumphs, there were often times when it was difficult to obtain information, to find ways to contribute, or to organize
a response quickly enough to be effective.
The CRTF is specifically designed to address these needs. The CRTF will serve as a central clearinghouse for information and coordination – tailoring the alerts sent to each volunteer based on that volunteer’s preferences and the needs of the community. Alerts and actions will range from emergency legal services to direct non-legal service actions and from workshops to rallies.
PLEASE NOTE that the Community Response Task Force form has been updated. Even if you have already filled out the form, we kindly ask that you resubmit your interest here.
