AABANY's Annual Meeting is taking place on Feb. 9, 2021. We hope to see you there! At our Annual Meeting, elections will be conducted to elect several Board Directors and 7 AABANY Officers for the coming year. The Officer positions include:
President-Elect,
Vice
President of Programs and Operations - 2 Positions,
Director of Development,
Treasurer,
Secretary, and
Membership Director.
The Nominations Committee welcomes applications to fill the vacancies immediately. The Nominations
Committee will select a slate of candidates to be included on a ballot form that will be sent out to the membership a month before the Annual Meeting. The Nominations Committee plans to interview candidates during the week of December
14.

Please come join us for an information and networking session for the AABANY Leadership Development Program (ALDP) on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at 6:30-8:30pm ET. During the first hour, our panel of faculty members and past participants

While creators are embodying their visions into art and after the works are fixed and can be admired or traded in the art market, how can copyright holders and creators gain economic benefit from their creations? In the US, moral rights alone do not offer sufficient opportunities to continue sharing in monetary appreciation of art once it leaves the studio. This discussion will cover business and legal considerations to utilize intellectual creations.
Presentations by attorneys Jana S. Farmer, Partner and Chair of the Art Law Practice at Wilson Elser, and AABANY IP Committee Co-Chair Gregory Pan, Head of Legal Affairs at (RED), will focus on the ways to ensure that artists get fair value for their creations and brand, from sales, consignments, and licensing in the traditional and digital marketplaces, moderated by Irina Tarsis, Founder and Managing Director of the Center for Art Law. The Asian American Bar Association of New York (“AABANY”) is proud to announce that applications for the Don H. Liu Scholars Program (“DHL Program”) are now open. The DHL Program was founded in 2014 by two past presidents of AABANY and
seeks to identify and cultivate future Asian American leaders in the legal community to address the single most important reality facing Asian American professionals today: the barrier to advancement.
This year, the Selection
Committee will select up to three scholars. Each scholar will be awarded $15,000 and will have access to prominent mentors, including Don H. Liu, Executive Vice President, Chief Legal and Risk Officer of Target Corporation. The DHL
Program will also provide assistance in OCI (on campus interview) bidding strategy, professional and soft-skills development and networking opportunities, including identifying potential internships. Details and more information about

To be eligible for the scholarship, the applicant must (i) be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of Asian descent;
(ii) be enrolled full-time as a 1L in a J.D. program at an ABA-accredited and approved law school in the U.S.; (iii) demonstrate exceptional academic accomplishments and leadership; (iv) demonstrate financial need; and (v) intend to

This fall, AABANY is launching a legal referral and information service (“LRIS”) as a public service primarily to help the general public, and especially the Asian American community. The goals of the LRIS are to provide information and
referrals, to recommend lawyers or other resources to provide competent, ethical legal advice and representation, to educate the public about legal representation and to increase respect for the legal profession.
We are seeking
qualified and experienced lawyers to serve on the panels of lawyers eligible to receive referrals from AABANY’s LRIS. Our current plan is to start the program on October 1st or as soon thereafter as possible.
This is a vital
program for AABANY that we anticipate will greatly benefit our panelists and fellow members as well as the public, and especially the Asian American community. If you would like to apply to be considered for the LRIS panel, please
contact main@aabany.org and we will send you an application form. If you have any questions, please send them to the same address.

| AABANY’s Issues Committee is pleased to invite you to join the AABANY Community Response Task Force! The Community Response Task Force (CRTF) is AABANY’s answer to the rapidly changing legal landscape and the need for quick, effective, and
coordinated responses to the emergent issues that affect our communities. AABANY is firmly committed to being a strong voice and steadfast advocate on behalf of the Asian-American/Pacific-Islander community. During these challenging times,
we have all been witness to sweeping changes that necessitated powerful legal responses. While there have been some great triumphs, there were often times when it was difficult to obtain information, to find ways to contribute, or to organize
a response quickly enough to be effective.
The CRTF is specifically designed to address these needs. The CRTF will serve as a central clearinghouse for information and coordination – tailoring the alerts sent to each volunteer based on that volunteer’s preferences and the needs of the community. Alerts and actions will range from emergency legal services to direct non-legal service actions and from workshops to rallies.
